Drippy’s opens new smashburger spot in Rotterdam

Drippy’s opens new smashburger spot in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, 11 April 2025 – A new burger spot has arrived in the heart of Rotterdam. Drippy’s expands with a second location on the historic Oude Binnenweg.

Drippy’s opens second location on Oude Binnenweg

The Rotterdam-based smashburger eatery Drippy’s has opened its second location, this time in a historic building on the Oude Binnenweg. The venue, formerly home to salad bar SLA, has been transformed into a two-level diner with both indoor seating and a terrace. The team behind Drippy’s – Kaj Gorgels, Ad Schaap and Colin Knopper – say they hope the space becomes a lively addition to the neighbourhood.

“In September the idea came up, by November we had our first opening, and now we’re launching our second location in Rotterdam,” said Colin Knopper. “It feels surreal to be moving this quickly.”

Smashburgers return to a familiar setting

The choice for this specific location was deliberate, according to co-founder Kaj Gorgels. “When we saw the building, we knew straight away,” he explained. “A monumental property with stained glass, two floors, and its own unique character. The Oude Binnenweg (meaning ‘Old Inner Way’) is developing rapidly, and this spot feels full of potential.”

Despite the new address, the menu remains familiar. Smashburgers – cooked flat on the grill to develop a crispy outer crust – continue to take centre stage. “We’re sticking with what works,” said Knopper, while noting that limited-edition menu specials would be introduced to keep regular guests engaged.

The interior maintains Drippy’s characteristic design – warm, urban, and distinct. The main change lies in the layout. “Because of the split-level setup, with seating both upstairs and downstairs, it has a completely different dynamic than our first location,” said Knopper. “But the atmosphere stays relaxed, just like people expect from us.”

A social spot beyond food

Drippy’s aims to be more than just a burger venue. Events such as the monthly ‘Breakfast Club’, which features croissants, burgers, unlimited coffee and music, are also planned for the new location.

“We want to be a place where people connect,” Knopper added. A community-focused approach is part of the brand’s identity, he explained, pointing to an upcoming social run organised in collaboration with Roffa Run Club. “These are the kinds of things that fit us.”

While the second location reinforces Drippy’s presence in Rotterdam, the team also has broader ambitions. An Amsterdam branch is planned for June, with possible expansion elsewhere in the Netherlands and internationally under consideration.

How to get there

Location and directions

Drippy’s second location can be found on the Oude Binnenweg in Rotterdam, a vibrant street lined with shops, cafés and bars. The building sits within walking distance of Eendrachtsplein metro station, and the area is easily accessible by tram, bike or on foot from the city centre.
