ROTTERDAM, 15 July 2026 – De Prins van Terbregge has been named Rotterdam’s Most Beautiful Terrace 2026 (Mooiste Terras van Rotterdam 2026) following a public vote. The waterside restaurant in Hillegersberg also won the award for Rotterdam’s Most Beautiful Smoke-free Terrace.

Hundreds of Rotterdammers voted in the competition, praising the relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and view across the Rotte. Spanish restaurant 21 Pinchos Fenix finished second, while On Other Drugs took third place.
Rotterdam chooses its favourite
The annual competition began in April, when people could nominate their favourite outdoor dining spots. More than sixty terraces were put forward before voting opened, with the final ballot remaining available until 8 July.
Owner Simon Wijers credited his colleagues and the atmosphere they create beside the water. “I am very happy with this award. The nicest place in Rotterdam, beside the most beautiful river in Rotterdam, surrounded by nature and still in the middle of the city. We keep the terrace warm, welcoming and full of flowers, but above all it is my wonderful colleagues who pull out all the stops every day to give our lovely guests a wonderful afternoon or evening. That, I believe, is what really matters. It is great to see that recognised in this way.”

Dining beside the Rotte
De Prins van Terbregge sits beside the Rotte in a quiet, green part of Hillegersberg. Passing boats and paddleboarders provide the backdrop, while the terrace extends over the water and is surrounded by trees, flowers and neighbouring homes.
The restaurant serves regularly changing multi-course lunch and dinner menus, based on the availability of fresh ingredients, herbs and plants. It is also known for its wine pairings, with hundreds of wines available and staff helping guests choose bottles or glasses to match the food.
A second award for smoke-free dining
De Prins van Terbregge also received the title of Rotterdam’s Most Beautiful Smoke-free Terrace. Wijers said the decision to keep the terrace smoke-free was rooted in hospitality, as smoke from one table could quickly affect the experience of guests seated nearby.
The double win gives the restaurant both the main terrace title and recognition for providing an outdoor environment where guests can eat, drink and enjoy the riverside setting without cigarette smoke drifting across the table.

Two more terraces make the podium. Accessibility award goes west
Second place went to 21 Pinchos Fenix, the Spanish food bar beside the Rijnhaven. The restaurant’s waterside terrace looks across the Maas and serves tapas, pinchos and drinks from its location near Fenix and Hotel New York. On Other Drugs finished third. Its terrace beside the Rotte has developed a loyal following and is sometimes described as “Bali on the Rotte” because of its greenery, open setting and informal holiday atmosphere.
The award for Rotterdam’s Most Accessible Terrace went to De Burgemeester on Burgemeester Meineszlaan. Voters highlighted its welcoming service and mixed crowd, alongside a drinks menu built around speciality beers and wine.
The competition is organised by the Municipality of Rotterdam and hospitality platform De Buik van Rotterdam. By Ami, on Antoine Platekade, won the main terrace award in 2025.

Rotterdam terraces in the spotlight
Councillor Tim Versnel visited De Prins van Terbregge to present the prize, while the businesses finishing second and third also received awards.
“Terraces contribute to the good life in Rotterdam. They are essential to a city where people enjoy living, working and spending their free time. De Prins van Terbregge is a more than deserving winner, and this competition is also a compliment to all Rotterdam hospitality entrepreneurs,” Versnel said.

How to get there
De Prins van Terbregge is located beside the Rotte at Bergse Linker Rottekade 323. The restaurant sits near Oud-Terbregge and the Prinses Irenebrug, north-east of central Rotterdam. It is easiest to reach by bicycle or car, with cycling routes running along both sides of the river.
The restaurant is open from Wednesday through Monday, serving lunch from 12:00 and dinner from 18:00. Reservations are recommended, especially when the weather suggests the whole of Rotterdam may suddenly remember that terraces exist.
