Ellis Gourmet Burger is a chain of restaurants in The Netherlands, Belgium and France. There are two Ellis Gourmet Burger restaurants in Rotterdam. The location discussed in this article is located on Stationsplein, near Rotterdam Central Station. 

 

The Ellis Gourmet Burger near Rotterdam Central Station is a cosy restaurant that kinda feels like a café. The place has a nice vibe and attracts solo- and business travellers a well as couples and groups of friends. The interior is decorated with old Holland-America Line posters and some parts of the walls are decorated with red bricks.

 

 

Ellis Gourmet Burger serves burgers (of course), though the variety of burgers is quite interesting. When's the last time you had a Guaco Waco Lamb burger? Ellis is also known for collaborating with chefs and product specialists. For example, the Blue Cheese Madness features an intensely matured cheese named 'Bleu des Causses' and was made in collaboration with cheese connaisseurs Van Tricht. Similarly the New Meatlover, which I had on this occasion, was made in collaboration with well-known Belgian butcher Hendrik Dierendonck. 

 

 

The Ellis menu also features milkshakes, homemade Iced Teas and Lemonades, sparkling wine, champagne as well as various cocktails. I ordered the Fizzy Lime Lemonade.

 

 

Burgers at Ellis are made with meat from Holstein cattle. Holstein are dual-purpose animals, as they go through life as dairy cattle before being adapted for the culinary experiences available in an establishment such as this.

 

I have to admit, the New Meatlovers was one of the best burgers I have had in a while. The meat was delicious and well seasoned. The bun, often overlooked at restaurants, was fresh, soft and warm.

Kiem Foei is definitely a local favourite. Especially among Rotterdam's Surinamese and Dutch-Caribbean population. Kiem Foei is a nice place with friendly staff. The restaurant has a fast-food vibe. It's not the type of restaurant where you'd have a romantic dinner or spend hours ordering drinks and desserts, but it's a great place to rest your feet and fill your stomach.

 

Kiem-Foei is different than most Chinese or Surinamese restaurants in Rotterdam as it serves both Asian as well as Dutch-Caribbean food. If you've ever spent some time on Aruba or Curaçao, you're bound to recognize various dishes on the Caribbean menu. At Kiem Foei, you'll also find various Surinamese sandwiches, soups and vegetarian dishes. Whether you're getting off work exhausted, or spending the day shopping in Rotterdam. Kiem Foei will always be a good choice for a quick, convenient and affordable meal.

While Rodizio does offer simple lunch items, such as sanwiches, let's be honest, Rodizio is known for its rodizio buffet. Rodizio's main 'all you can eat' menu consists of mainly two options: complete and complete + shrimps. Rodizio also works with sittings. The earlier sittings are also less expensive than the later sittings.

 

On weekdays there are two sittings; on in the afternoon and one in the evening. On Saturdays and Sundays, the sittings are split into three. If you show up between 12:00 and 18:00 on a Monday, you're likely to pay €22,50 (or €39,50 including shrimps). On the other hand, grab dinner from 19:45 onwards on Saturday night and you'll pay €32,50 (or €45,50 including shrimps).

 

After you grab a seat and order your drinks, the buffet awaits. Grab your own plate and fill it with a wide variety of salad choices as well as rice and lasagna. 

 

As for dessert, I had a quesillo. It had a rather fancy name on the menu, but this is a quesillo. It consists of eggs, condensed milk and caramelized sugar.

 

 

One thing that has to be mentioned. If you drop by in the evening, you're also going to be experiencing dinner shows. In one seating, these folks came out twice and performed energetic dances to samba medleys.
