ROTTERDAM, 30 June 2025 – The Euromast marks its 65th anniversary with a new immersive exhibition that reimagines Rotterdam’s history and skyline in vivid detail. From July, visitors will be introduced to an interactive journey that begins at ground level.
Euromast unveils ‘The Rise of Rotterdam’ on its 65th anniversary
The Euromast, a prominent structure in the Rotterdam skyline since 1960, is introducing a new visitor experience to coincide with its 65th anniversary. Entitled The Rise of Rotterdam, the interactive installation aims to offer visitors a deeper connection to the city through sound, visuals and storytelling.
Opening on 4 July 2025, the experience begins before guests even take the lift up the tower. Starting at the base of the Euromast, the exhibition guides visitors through two thematic sections: Rotterdam risen from the water and A colourful panorama.
From swamp to skyline
The first part, Rotterdam risen from the water, transports guests back to 1270. Set in a marshy and inhospitable landscape, visitors engage with the early origins of the city. Through projections, sound design and interactive displays, the founding of Rotterdam is brought to life, encouraging guests to actively explore how the settlement developed.
Following this, A colourful panorama highlights the city’s transformation into a modern metropolis. This section reflects on the construction of the Euromast during the 1960 Floriade and includes a dynamic presentation of Rotterdam’s architectural evolution.
The Euromast opens a new exhibition, The Rise of Rotterdam, offering visitors an immersive journey through the city’s past and present.
A new perspective on the city
Leonie Staat, general manager of the Euromast, explained that the aim was to provide an experience that added meaning to the visit. “We wanted to create something that makes you not just see, but also feel what Rotterdam is and where it comes from.”
She added that The Rise of Rotterdam serves both as an ideal starting point for visitors and as a novel way for residents to reconnect with their city.
A chapter in Colourful Rotterdam
The new exhibition forms the first instalment of a broader concept called Colourful Rotterdam, a series of experiences designed to explore the city’s identity through the lens of its people, architecture, environment and character (lef). After engaging with The Rise of Rotterdam, guests continue their journey to the top via the Euroscoop or observation platform, now equipped with a new appreciation for the stories behind the skyline.
A new direction for the Euromast
This development is part of a larger shift in the Euromast’s role. No longer functioning solely as a viewpoint, it now serves as a multi-sensory introduction to the city. The exhibition is included in the standard admission ticket and aims to enrich the overall experience.
About the Euromast
Constructed in 1960 for the Floriade, the Euromast stands at 185 metres and offers panoramic views of Rotterdam and its port. Visitors can dine in the Brasserie, stay overnight in one of the elevated suites, or ascend to the top in the rotating Euroscoop lift. Operated by Magnicity since 2020, the tower also offers options for abseiling from 100 metres and hosts various events and corporate activities.
Visiting the Euromast
The Euromast is located at Parkhaven 20, in the western part of the city, close to Het Park and near the entrance to the Maas Tunnel. The area is well-served by public transport and has parking facilities nearby. It lies within walking distance of other attractions such as the Kunsthal and the Wereldmuseum.
