Bazar - North African & Middle Eastern restaurant

Bazar - North African & Middle Eastern restaurant

Bazar, a Middle Eastern and North African restaurant located in the Rotterdam Centrum neighbourhood, is an excellent choice for a delicious meal in an exotic setting.

Vibe

Bazar is very popular in Rotterdam, so be sure to make a reservation if you're planning to visit in the busy hours. Do note that they only take reservations by phone, not by e-mail. The restaurant staff is multicultural and very friendly. The waiting time (for service and food) is good. It's a good place to grab either breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Menu

Bazar offers Middle Eastern and North African meals as well as many Turkish delicacies. Furthermore, all the meat is 100% halal.

I had the Yogurtlu Adana (€12,90). If you're a big eater or just really starving, portion size might be an issue. So it's not a bad idea to either get an appetizer or to end your meal with dessert.

As for desserts, their menu includes Baklava, cheesecake with nuts & dates as well as local favourites such as the famous Dudok apple pie. I asked for green tea, but they only serve two kinds of tea here; BAZAR tea and mint tea.

Foodhallen Rotterdam - location, restaurants and review

Foodhallen Rotterdam - location, restaurants and review

The brand new Foodhallen in Rotterdam opened its doors the other day. So, I decided to go check it out. The verdict? Foodhallen Rotterdam is a great place to find high-quality food and drinks in a relaxed setting.

Food for everybody!

At the Foodhallen in Rotterdam, there are various vendors serving a wide variety of cuisines. Whether you're into Spanish tapas, Chinese dim sum, Vietnamese street food, authentic Italian pizza, barbecue snacks, cupcakes, locally sourced beef burgers or seafood, you'll find something you like at this food hall.

Mix & Match more than Surf & Turf

You can easily order different meals at different places and combine them at the table. How about Vietnamese spring rolls, lamb ribs, wine and dessert. It's doable!

While my burger was being prepared, I ordered wine at another bar.

I could have even gotten cupcakes and spring rolls while I was waiting. But why overdo it? ;-)

Foodhallen versus Markthal?

The age-old question? Foodhallen and Markthal are totally different. Foodhallen is similar to the Markthal in that it is a big hall in which you'll find various high-quality food vendors. The main difference, however, is that the focus is actually more on eating said food rather than looking at it.

At the Foodhallen, it looks and feels like the food courts you'd find in an American shopping mall. It's a place for eating and drinking. There are no designs on the ceiling or folks taking pictures, but there are plenty of places to sit and relax.

Every food stall has seating at the bar and in the centre of the hall, there are tables for everybody. There's also an additional dining area which was completely empty at about 16:00 in the afternoon.

The food hall is located at Wilhelminakade 58, in the Kop van Zuid area. The building's facade reads Pakhuismeesteren. The hall, like many on Kop van Zuid, used to be a 'pakhuis,' that's Dutch for 'warehouse.'

Foodhallen Rotterdam shares the building with the Room Mate Bruno hotel. In fact, there's a corridor connecting the hotel and the Foodhallen. Foodhallen Rotterdam is open daily from 11:00 in the morning to midnight.

De Kade - Asian & Surinamese restaurant

De Kade, an Asian & Surinamese restaurant located in Rotterdam's Oude Westen neighbourhood, is a good choice for a quick and delicious meal in the heart of the city centre.

Vibe

The restaurant staff is very friendly and the waiting time (for service and food) is very short. It's a good place to grab lunch or dinner when spending a day in the city.

Menu

De Kade serves Asian and Surinamese food. There's a takeaway counter as well as a seating area and they offer sandwiches as well as full meals. However, what makes it a great choice for just about everybody is the fact that they also take into account allergies, gluten intolerances etc. There's a vegetarian menu which also includes meat alternatives such as vegan chicken, vegan babi pangang and even vegan duck.

I had the broccoli and beef (€13) and paid extra (€2,50) for the brown fried rice (white rice is free).

Whenever I have Asian food with beer, I ask for Tsingtao. It's a standard pale lager made with malt, hops and a hint of rice. I find the taste very light and refreshing.

Osteria Vicini – tasty Italian food in Kralingen

Osteria Vicini – tasty Italian food in Kralingen

Osteria Vicini, an Italian restaurant located in Kralingen, is the perfect place for those who enjoy both tasteful food and décor. The place serves Italian breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable prices.

Vibe

The restaurant has a trendy but still laid back vibe with good food and friendly service. It’s a popular place in Kralingen, so at times it can be busy. The trendy and spacious interior with lots of tables and cosy couches make it a great spot to catch up with friends and family.

Menu

Vicini serves a range of Italian dishes such as different kinds of panini’s, pasta, pizzas and antipasti. The panini’s that we had for lunch were tasty and the cappuccinos good. A nice bonus: Vicini serves bottles with tap water for free. What stood out the most were the cheesecakes with cherry topping as they were perfectly balanced in sweetness and had the perfect texture - not too heavy nor too light.

My friend and I concluded that we should definitely visit Vicini again soon to try the other dishes.

Noo.Me - Asian street food in Rotterdam

Noo.Me - Asian street food in Rotterdam

Noo.Me, located in Rotterdam's Stadsdriehoek area is a good choice for great looking - but even better tasting - Asian street food.

We were in the city centre the other day and looking to grab a quick bite when we came across this cozy restaurant called Noo.Me. It's located in Stadsdriehoek, near Meent.

Vibe
The place has a laidback vibe, the food is good and service is quick. "Simple, delightful Asian street food" is how my sister described it.

Menu
The menu features a wide variety of dumplings, bites (such as chicken and shrimp on toast) as well as various noodle soups. They also have a very nice thinly sliced Peking duck that comes with pancakes so you can make your own wraps.

P.S. we didn't do this, but according to the website you can ask for fresh zucchini noodles if you're watching your weight ;-).
