ROTTERDAM, 11 January 2024 – A new pinnacle of dining and leisure is set to grace Rotterdam's skyline by the year's end, as Magnicity announces the opening of an innovative restaurant and bar concept on the Zalmhaven's top floors.

New dining experience coming to Zalmhaven's summit

End of this year, Rotterdam's iconic Zalmhaven tower, the tallest building in the Benelux, will host a novel restaurant and bar concept, introduced by Magnicity, a leader in high-altitude urban recreation. This venture promises an exclusive experience on the 57th and 58th floors, intertwined with narratives celebrating Rotterdam's heritage.

The Zalmhaven stands as a testament to architectural prowess, reaching a height of 215 meters and offering unparalleled views of Rotterdam's skyline. Its selection by Magnicity for this venture is rooted in its modern appeal, strategic location, and potential for a distinctive concept, highlighted by the spectacular vista it provides.

A unique addition to Rotterdam's leisure landscape

Magnicity, known for managing panoramic observatories and dining venues worldwide, including Rotterdam's Euromast, aims to deliver an unforgettable experience. This addition is set to enrich Rotterdam's offerings to both locals and tourists, enhancing the city's reputation as a destination for memorable high-altitude leisure activities.

Alexia Vettier, CEO of Magnicity, expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the Zalmhaven's role as a new icon and premium experience in Rotterdam, reflecting the city's development and potential.

Collaboration and vision

The initiative will be overseen by Souad El Hamdaoui, current director of the Euromast, and Dennis Vermeulen, appointed general manager of the new location. Their ambition is to transform the tower's summit into a premier destination that marries exceptional dining with breathtaking views, particularly of landmarks like the Erasmus Bridge.

From late 2024, the venue will not only cater to diners but also welcome visitors throughout the day to enjoy the panoramic sights of Rotterdam, ensuring an awe-inspiring experience for all.

ROTTERDAM, 29 December 2023 – A new dining experience, combining Japanese cuisine and ambiance, has arrived in Rotterdam with the opening of Izakaya Duki at Hofplein. This culinary venture, nestled within the recently launched karaoke bar Duke of Tokyo, offers a unique gateway to Japanese culture in the heart of the city.

Izakaya concept arrives in Rotterdam

An izakaya, akin to a Japanese pub or bistro, provides a casual setting for enjoying drinks and shared small plates. Izakaya Duki brings this authentic Japanese dining style to Rotterdam, where guests can observe the preparation of dishes from an elevated area overlooking the kitchen. The entrance, intriguingly located behind a door of the 7Eleven supermarket, leads diners into a world of Japanese flavors and hospitality.

Diverse Japanese menu

The menu at Izakaya Duki, created in collaboration with the Japanese-Rotterdam company Osozai, features a variety of traditional Japanese dishes. Guests can enjoy yakitori, karaage, and salmon tataki, alongside vegetarian and vegan options like soya-marinated tomatoes and blanched spinach with sesame dressing. The drink selection includes various beers, wines, sake, and signature cocktails infused with Japanese ingredients like yuzu and shiitake.

Diners can also opt for larger shared dishes, such as grilled dorade and tomahawk tonkatsu with Japanese BBQ sauce. To complete the experience, guests are encouraged to book a private karaoke booth for post-dinner entertainment.

The story of Duke of Tokyo

Founded by entrepreneurs Has Peter Sengers, Wessel Kruyt, and their British partner Ben Warren, the first Duke of Tokyo opened in 2018 in Amsterdam's Reguliersdwarsstraat. Following its success, a second branch was established in Utrecht, financed through crowdfunding. The Glasfabriek, a significant location in Schiedam, has been transformed for the winter season. Visitors can enjoy various activities, including an environmentally friendly synthetic ice rink measuring 10 by 20 meters, available from Friday to Sunday. Additionally, fresh snow is delivered every weekend for building snowmen or engaging in snowball fights, catering to both children and adults.

Indoor warmth and culinary delights

For those preferring the indoors, Eurobrouwers offers a cozy atmosphere beside the heater, where guests can partake in board games and savor a range of drinks and delicacies. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a homemade cheese fondue made with Booij kaasmakers cheese, calvados, and Eurobrouwers beer is served, accompanied by sourdough bread and a variety of raw vegetables.

ROTTERDAM, 26 October 2023 – Celebrating a quarter-century of history, Sijf, the renowned Rotterdam café, announces a month-long series of events for its 25th anniversary.

In November 2023, Sijf, a distinguished café located at the heart of Rotterdam's Oude Binnenweg, will mark its 25th anniversary. The month-long celebration will feature various activities, including the introduction of a special edition beer, the Sijf IPA, and a grand anniversary party on 25 November with a transformed dance floor and DJs.

Barrie van de Berg, the enthusiastic manager of Sijf, expressed his excitement about the anniversary. “As we celebrate this milestone, we aim to shine a spotlight on everyone who has been a part of our journey – current and former staff, guests, and local residents. We're inviting our neighbours for a complimentary breakfast in November, and they will soon receive a voucher for this special treat,” he said.

A month of festivities

The celebrations kick off on 1 November with the unveiling of the Sijf IPA, marking the beginning of the jubilee month. The Amazing Stroopwafels will provide entertainment during this event. On 16 November, patrons can participate in the Sijf Pubquiz, fostering a spirit of healthy competition. A reunion for all former Sijf employees is scheduled for 23 November, acknowledging their contribution over the years. The festivities reach their peak on 25 November, with the café transforming into a vibrant dance floor hosted by various DJs.

Sijf's culinary offerings

Throughout the jubilee month, Sijf will also offer special deals and discounts. For instance, unlimited spareribs will be available for €15 per person, and a three-course Sijf Jubilee menu featuring café classics will be priced at €25.

About Sijf

Sijf is housed in a 19th-century building that survived the Second World War's infamous bombings. Named after the carpenter Sijf van Zuilen, who revamped the pub in the late 1990s, it is known for its warm atmosphere. The café attracts a diverse crowd, from creative thirty-somethings and trendy twenty-somethings to serious business professionals.
