












This year, the municipality of Rotterdam is joining forces with a number of cultural institutions to organise a programme of winter-themed events, spread out across the entire city.
The festive kick-off of the winter season is on Friday, 8th of December. The doors of city hall (Stadhuis) will be open to the public from 17:00 onwards. The city hall's garden (stadhuistuin) will be transformed into a winter garden.
As is tradition, Rotterdam city Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb will officially light the Christmas tree at exactly 18:00. The rest of the evening will feature various musical performances and Urban Guides will provide guided tours inside city hall.

Throughout the entire evening, all sorts of activities are organized in which young and old can participate for free. Tours in the town hall take place at various times.

The Rotterdamse Popweek is organized by the Popunie; a foundation which for many years has been a major driving force behind a lot of the musical developments in the city. Gotta love these guys!
Rotterdamse Popweek prides itself on being the only week that lasts 10 days. The 'week' is all about pop and pop related activities. This year, the fourth edition of the Rotterdamse Popweek takes place from October 28th through November 6th. Rotterdamse Popweek features 500 acts performing at over 100 locations. There's a lot more happening than you might think.It al begins on October 28th with the Rotterdam Music Awards and the Rotterdam Popquiz in Rotown.

Come to the city on Saturday 29th to experience the Rotterdam Zombie Walk. On November 1st, there's the Rotterdamse Popweek jam session in RAAF. The MTV Music Week kicks off on November 2nd and ends on Sunday November 6th with the MTV European Music Awards event in Rotterdam Ahoy. Saturday, november 5th it's time for the always popular Popronde where musicians from across the Netherlands come to Rotterdam to perform in local bars and shops. Another event to check out is the 40 Years of Punk fest in Vibes (40 Jaar Punkfest).

All around the world, World Food Day is celebrated every October 16th. This year, Rotterdam marks the occasion with its very own World Food Day festival. The event offers sneak peeks inside kitchens in and around Rotterdam, which are usually closed to the general public.
Interesting fact: World Food Day honors the founding of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.
Schouwburgplein is the main location for the festival. Expect to see cooking demonstrations by popular chef Rudolph van Veen, a celebrity food quiz and music by DJ Thelonius.
Other activities include a supermarket safari, talk shows in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg theatre and interesting presentations on how food travels all the way from the world to your plate.
