On Saturday and Sunday, 1-2 April 2023, the Batavierhuis will host the two-day mini-festival Batafest. This year's theme revolves around two inseparable contrasts: Saturday Sinners & Sunday Saints. On Saturday, expect a program full of hellish scenes, guilty pleasures and sinister concerts, then on Sunday all is forgiven and the program is all about heavenly sounds, holiness and purification.
The makerspace for artists from Rotterdam celebrates its three-year anniversary and opens its doors for (almost) twenty-four hours for anyone curious about what lies behind the walls of the monumental building. Wander through the Batavierhuis and discover installations, performances, concerts, jam sessions, lectures, workshops, performances, and meet the many musicians and music-related artists and professionals.
Since its opening in 2019, the Batavierhuis has been home to some eighty Batavians, including many musicians and composers, as well as playwrights, writers, filmmakers, animators, performers, dancers, photographers, producers, and other professionals working within music. The Batavierhuis is three years old, and to celebrate, the Batafest is being organized: a birthday party, open house and festival all in one.
“To introduce the public with their own eyes and ears to all that is being made here and, especially, by whom. We would like to show that and celebrate it together,” said Ellen van der Windt, director of Batavierhuis. “Meeting the makers and the versatility of the offerings at Batavierhuis on Saturday as well as Sunday makes this mini-festival extra special.”
A ticket gives you access to wander around the house on Saturday, April 1 from 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. After the opening on Saturday at 14:00, a new mini concert will start every half hour in a new spot and there will be ongoing performances in the house. Experience jazz, world music, folk, techno, electronic music, classical and pop while enjoying delicious snacks and drinks. Passe-partout tickets can be purchased online for only €5. For the full program and tickets, visit the Batavierhuis website.
