HAPPENING 3 JUN 2026 | The LEGO Group and the KNVB will hand out one million free orange LEGO bricks across the Netherlands on 3 June, the day of Oranje’s farewell match before the World Cup. Rotterdam fans can join the campaign at the city’s own LEGO Store in the Koopgoot, which opened earlier this year at Beurstraverse 103-107.
The giveaway invites supporters to build their own orange creation for the Dutch national football team. Fans can collect a free box of orange LEGO bricks at all LEGO Stores in the Netherlands, all Intertoys and DreamLand branches, and the KNVB pop-up store at Schiphol.
Rotterdam joins Oranje build-up
Rotterdam has had its own official LEGO Store since March 2026, when the LEGO Group opened a shop in the Koopgoot. That gives local Oranje fans a clear place in the city centre to take part in the national campaign.
The campaign runs for one day only, on 3 June, while stocks last. If you are planning to pick up a box in Rotterdam, the Koopgoot is the obvious local stop. Other locations include all LEGO Stores in the Netherlands, all Intertoys and DreamLand branches, and the KNVB pop-up store at Schiphol.
Fans build football support
Each participant receives a box of orange LEGO bricks. The idea is to build something that shows support for the Dutch national team, such as an orange heart, a football or the shirt number of a favourite player.
Builders can also use LEGO bricks they already have at home to make larger or more personal creations. In Rotterdam terms, nobody is stopping you from adding a tiny Erasmus Bridge, a miniature tram or something that started as a lion but became “abstract football emotion” halfway through.

Share creations with Oranje
Fans are encouraged to share their creations online with the hashtag #SpeelinOranje. The LEGO Group and the KNVB also suggest placing builds somewhere visible, such as in the window, so homes across the country can colour a little more orange.
It is a simple campaign, but a clever one. Football support usually means flags, shirts and face paint. This time, it also means small plastic bricks and at least one parent pretending the build is “for the kids” while quietly taking over the design.

LEGO and KNVB partner
The giveaway is part of a wider collaboration between the LEGO Group and the KNVB, running until the European Championship in 2028. As Proud Partners in Play (Trotse Partners in Play), the two organisations want to encourage children to move more, play more and use their imagination.
“Play, both on the football pitch and with LEGO bricks, connects generations and on 3 June we are celebrating that on a large scale,” says Marius Lang, Vice President & General Manager at the LEGO Group Benelux. “By handing out one million free orange LEGO bricks on the day of the farewell match, we want to make support for the Dutch national football team tangible in every living room. It is wonderful to see how the LEGO Group and the KNVB find each other in this enthusiasm. This giveaway brings young and old together: we hope children and parents will unleash their creativity and share their love of building with LEGO sets and football. With this national campaign, we are sending off the Dutch national team in a creative way and showing that we are ready together.”

KNVB sees creative support
Dave Dekker, commercial director of the KNVB, also links the campaign to creativity and sport. “Football is about fun, creativity and building together, values that connect directly with the LEGO Group. With this large-scale action on 3 June, we offer the next generation a unique way to show their enthusiasm for the farewell match. As Proud Partners in Play, we want to show that creativity and sportsmanship go hand in hand. The million orange bricks are a wonderful symbol of the creative power of our fans. Of course, we wish the Dutch national football team every success and hope this mass support gives the players an extra push on the way to victory.”
The campaign is aimed at young supporters, families and football fans, but let’s be honest, plenty of adult LEGO fans will also understand the assignment. Free orange bricks, a football excuse and a city-centre LEGO Store is a fairly tidy little Rotterdam errand.
Event truck joins match
At the farewell match itself, a special event truck will be present. Fans can build and take home a free LEGO football boot, write a message for the national team on a message wall, discover the new LEGO Editions products and take a photo with the LEGO mascot.
The free brick giveaway is available exclusively on 3 June and only while stocks last. So if you want to build your own Oranje creation, this is not the day to stroll in at closing time with “they’ll probably still have some” energy. Brave, but not wise.
