HAPPENING AUGUST 2026 – Typical Tropical fills August with salsa, bachata and Kizomba classes, two outdoor dance nights at Stadion Neptunus and the monthly LatinXpress party at Grounds. The programme also introduces Typical Latin, a new free event at Urban Bistro HAKA on Wednesday 19 August.
The regular Latin Café DOX will take a one-month break because Café Dox is closed during the summer holiday. Typical Latin at HAKA takes its place in the August calendar, bringing salsa, bachata and more to Rotterdam’s M4H district.

LatinXpress opens the month
LatinXpress returns to Podium Grounds on Saturday 1 August with separate rooms for salsa and bachata. DJs Rojo and Mo play in the Salsa Room, while DJs Rachella and Lindt take over the Bachata Room. The party runs from 22:00 until 03:30.
Warung Mystique provides tropical food during the night, with RH Fotografie capturing the dance floor. Drinks can be paid for by cash or card, toilets are free and the cloakroom costs €1 per item, payable in cash. Parking in the surrounding streets is free after 23:00.

Four-week summer courses
A new round of four-week summer courses begins during the week of Monday 3 August. The August programme includes salsa, Dominican and fusion bachata, and Kizomba Fusion, with each course consisting of four two-hour classes at the Typical Tropical Studios.
Classes combine clear instruction with rotating partners, personal attention and time to practise combinations and musical expression. Couples may remain together when preferred, while solo participants can join without bringing a partner. The courses run until Sunday 30 August.

Outdoor dancing at Neptunus
Typical Tropical Outdoor returns to Stadion Neptunus on Saturdays 15 and 22 August. Both events run from 19:00 until 23:00, with dancing in an open-air setting surrounded by trees, sports fields and the recognisable baseball stadium.
DJs Virgil and Lindt play on 15 August, followed by DJ Jarzino on 22 August. Homerun Catering serves tropical snacks, while food and drinks can be paid for by cash or card. The cloakroom costs €1 per item and accepts cash only, while the toilets are free.

Online event tickets cost €10 until 14:00 on the day of each party. Remaining online tickets cost €15 after 14:00, while tickets at the entrance cost €17 in cash or €18 by card.
Parking tickets cost €5 online until 14:00 and €7.50 after 14:00, with a maximum of 200 parking tickets available. At the entrance, parking costs €7.50 in cash or €8.50 by card. Visitors receive a full refund if an event is cancelled because of poor weather.
The outdoor dance floor is unsuitable for suede-soled dance shoes. A pair of trainers or older dance shoes would therefore be the wiser choice, unless sacrificing suede to the Rotterdam summer is part of the plan.

Free Typical Latin night at HAKA
Typical Latin makes its debut at Urban Bistro HAKA on Wednesday 19 August. DJ Mo provides salsa, bachata and other Latin styles from 20:30 until 00:30, with free admission throughout the evening.
The event replaces the August edition of Latin Café DOX and gives dancers a first look at a new Typical Tropical location. HAKA sits in the M4H district opposite Bigshops, where the first three hours of parking are free. Parking then costs €0.50 per fifteen minutes.

There will be no Latin Café DOX in August. The regular event is expected to return after the venue’s summer closure.
How to get there
Grounds is located in Delfshaven, close to Coolhaven metro station and within cycling distance of Rotterdam Centraal.
Typical Tropical Studios can be found on Schiekade in Rotterdam-Noord, north of the city centre and easily reached by bicycle from Rotterdam Centraal.
Stadion Neptunus is located near Blijdorp and the Vroesenpark. Event parking must be purchased separately and can sell out.
Urban Bistro HAKA is in M4H, close to Marconiplein metro station. Bigshops is directly opposite the venue and provides the parking arrangement listed above.
