Rotterdam artist Saïd Kinos designs new Duvel glass

ROTTERDAM, 20 August 2026 – Rotterdam artist Saïd Kinos has designed the 2026 edition of Duvel’s annual Designer Glass. The limited-edition glass translates his distinctive mix of typography, colour and layered graphic forms onto one of Belgium’s most recognisable beer glasses and will be available from 26 August.

The Duvel Designer Glass 2026 features Saïd Kinos’s layered typography and colour.

Kinos, who was born and raised in Rotterdam, joins a series of Dutch artists who have previously been invited to reinterpret the Duvel glass. His design plays with the tension between visual overload and stillness, reflecting a world in which images, messages and other stimuli are constantly competing for attention.

From Rotterdam streets to graphic design

Kinos began studying journalism in Utrecht in 2006 before changing direction and continuing his education at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. His work now moves between graffiti, typography, graphic design and large-scale murals.

Letters play an important role in his visual language, but not simply as text to be read. Kinos often breaks words apart, layers them and changes their context, turning typography into something that can be experienced visually as much as understood literally.

His work has appeared in cities including London, Denver, Los Angeles and Guangzhou. In Rotterdam, he has also created a monumental mural for Kunsthal.

That combination of street-art energy and graphic precision is visible on the new Duvel glass. Colours, shapes and fragments of typography wrap around its curved surface, changing depending on the angle from which you look at it.

A glass built around slowing down

The central idea behind the design is surprisingly calm considering how visually busy it is. Kinos describes the work as a moment of slowing down in a world that rarely stops moving.

“In a fast-moving world, this design captures a moment of slowing down and reflection,” Kinos says. “I wanted to play with different layers, colours and shapes that may seem separate at first, but together form one whole. Just like people, really.”

He adds that taking the time to look more closely is part of the idea: “It is precisely when you stop for a moment and take the time to look that new connections appear.”

For Kinos, translating his normally two-dimensional visual language onto a physical object was part of the attraction. He describes the Designer Glass as an established commission that gave him the opportunity to see how an everyday drinking glass could become a collectible object.

Rotterdam artist joins long-running series

Duvel has been inviting artists to redesign its glass for 16 years. Previous Dutch contributors include Piet Parra, Morrison Schiffmacher, Iwan Smit, Franky Sticks, Hedof and Loes van Delft.

The basic shape of the glass remains recognisable, but each artist is given room to apply a completely different visual approach. Kinos’s version is built around layered colour and typography, with the design wrapping around the bowl rather than sitting as a single isolated image.

For Rotterdam, the collaboration puts another locally trained and based artist into a series that has increasingly blurred the line between commercial design and collectible art.

Kinos’s background makes that connection particularly fitting. His work already moves between public murals, graphic design and gallery contexts, so applying it to an object that sits somewhere between everyday use and collector culture feels like a natural extension.
