HAPPENING JULY 2026 | Typical Tropical has announced a full July programme with summer courses, Latin parties, outdoor dance events and free city-centre socials. The month brings salsa, bachata and more to Schiekade, Podium Grounds, Stadion Neptunus, Nieuwe Luxor Theater and Stadspodium Rotterdam.
If you want to dance your way through July, this is a busy one. The programme starts with four-week summer courses in salsa and bachata, followed by LatinXpress, several Typical Tropical Outdoor editions and free midweek and Sunday events around the city.
Summer courses start in June
Typical Tropical’s four-week summer courses start in the week of Monday 29 June to Sunday 5 July and run until Sunday 26 July. The classes take place at Typical Tropical Studio’s on Schiekade 830 and focus on salsa and bachata, including Dominican and fusion bachata.
Participants can choose between four lessons of one or two hours. The courses are built around clear instruction, partner changes or dancing with your own partner, varied combinations and a social atmosphere. The idea is simple: use the summer to learn, practise and feel more comfortable on the dance floor before heading to the parties and socials.

LatinXpress returns to Grounds
LatinXpress takes place on Saturday 4 July at Podium Grounds on Pieter de Hoochweg 125. The monthly party uses separate salsa and bachata rooms, with DJs Rojo and Rachella in the Salsa Room and DJs Jarzino and Pequeno el loco in the Bachata Room.
The event runs from 22:00 to 03:30 and includes tropical catering by Warung Mystique, photography by RH Fotografie and professional light and sound. Presale tickets are listed at €10, €12.50, €15 and €18.50 via https://typicaltropical.nl/a1mh. Door tickets cost €17.50 cash or €18.50 by card. Drinks can be paid by cash or card, the cloakroom costs €1 per item in cash, toilets are free and parking is free after 23:00.
Outdoor dancing at Neptunus
Typical Tropical Outdoor returns to Stadion Neptunus several times in July. The outdoor setting sits among trees, sports fields and the stadium surroundings, with the party taking place under the evening sky. The organisers note that there are 250 parking spaces, while event parking is sold separately and limited to 200 spaces.
The first July outdoor edition takes place on Sunday 12 July at Stadion Neptunus, Abraham van Stolkweg 31. Doors open at 17:45, DJ Jarzino plays, live music comes from Por Que No and the event ends at 23:00. Presale event tickets cost €10 until 14:00 on the day, or while available, with parking at €5. Later presale costs €15 for the event and €7.50 for parking. Door tickets cost €17 cash or €18 by card, with parking at €7.50 cash or €8.50 by card. The next edition takes place on Saturday 18 July. Doors open at 17:45, followed by an open-level salsa workshop by Helen and Clay from 18:15 to 19:00. Party time runs from 19:00 to 23:00 with DJs Mo and Rachella. Ticket and parking prices follow the same structure as the 12 July edition, with tickets via https://typicaltropical.nl/8d58.
Another edition is listed for Saturday 25 July. After the 17:45 walk-in and DJ start, Glen and Khristy lead an open-level Dominican bachata workshop from 18:15 to 19:00. The party continues from 19:00 to 23:00 with DJs El Pequeño Loco and Charlie. Tickets are available via https://typicaltropical.nl/joq7.
For all Neptunus outdoor editions, the cloakroom is cash only at €1 per item, toilets are free and food and drinks can be paid by cash or card. Tropical snacks are provided by Homerun Catering. If the event is cancelled because of bad weather, the organisers state that visitors receive a full refund. The surface is not suitable for suede soles, so save your delicate dance shoes for the studio, darling.
Free socials in the city
Typical Tropical also has free events on the July calendar. On Wednesday 15 July, Latin Café DOX takes place at Café Dox in the Nieuwe Luxor Theater, Antoine Platekade 9. DJ Virgil provides the music from 20:30 to 00:30, with salsa and bachata, plus touches of merengue and kizomba. Entry is free, and parking is free after 23:00 or paid in nearby car parks.
On Sunday 19 July, Typical Tropical in the City takes over Stadspodium Rotterdam at Grotekerkplein. The afternoon starts with a workshop at 14:00, followed by DJ Carlos at 14:30. The event ends at 17:00 and entry is free.

How to get there
The July programme is spread across several Rotterdam locations. Typical Tropical Studio’s is at Schiekade 830, close to Rotterdam Central Station and reachable by tram, metro, bike or on foot from the station area. Podium Grounds is at Pieter de Hoochweg 125 in Delfshaven, near metro station Delfshaven. Stadion Neptunus is at Abraham van Stolkweg 31, near the sports fields north-west of the city centre. Café Dox is inside the Nieuwe Luxor Theater at Antoine Platekade 9, next to Wilhelminaplein metro station. Stadspodium Rotterdam is at Grotekerkplein, close to the Laurenskerk and Blaak.
