Salsa and bachata events in Rotterdam with Typical Tropical

HAPPENING MAY 2026 | Typical Tropical is lining up a packed May 2026 programme in Rotterdam, with parties, an outdoor social, a free Latin night and a new round of five-week dance courses. If you dance salsa or bachata, or want an easy way into the scene, this month gives you several chances to step onto the floor.

LatinXpress

May starts with LatinXpress at Podium Grounds on Saturday 2 May, a familiar fixture for Rotterdam dancers who like their salsa and bachata in separate rooms. The line-up includes DJ Rojo and DJ Virgil in the salsa room, plus DJ Jarzino and DJ El Che in the bachata room, with tropical catering by Huize Wekker and photos by RH Fotografie. Presale tickets range from €10 to €18.50, while door tickets cost €17.50 cash or €18.50 by card. More info and tickets are at https://typicaltropical.nl/mzsc.

Tropalize

A little later in the month, Tropalize lands at Zoho on Wednesday 13 May for a Latin night built around a 200 m² dance floor and a broad mix of salsa, bachata and more. DJ Jarzino is on the line-up, and the evening runs from 21:00 to 01:30. Presale tickets start at €10, with door tickets at €15 cash or €16.50 by card. More info is at https://typicaltropical.nl/4eqb.

Typical Tropical Outdoor

Then comes one of the most seasonal picks on the calendar: Typical Tropical Outdoor at Stadion Neptunus on Friday 15 May. Set among trees, sports grounds and the stadium itself, the event opens at 17:45, followed by an open-level salsa workshop from Helen and Clayton at 18:15, before DJ Mo and DJ Virgil take over the party from 19:00 to 23:00. Organisers say there is space for up to 200 parking spots, tropical snacks by Homerun Catering, and a full refund if the weather turns. Tickets and parking details are listed at https://typicaltropical.nl/9tu9.

New dance courses start in May

Typical Tropical is also launching a fresh set of five-week salsa and bachata courses from Wednesday 20 May to Sunday 21 June 2026 at the Typical Tropical Studios on Schiekade. The programme covers salsa as well as bachata in Dominican and Fusion styles, with each course running for five lessons of two hours each. Registration is open at https://typicaltropical.nl/inschrijven.

The format is clearly aimed at dancers who want more than a single social night. Typical Tropical promises experienced teachers, clear explanations, personal attention, varied combinations, partner rotation, and access to a wider dance community with socials and parties where you can practise what you learn. For anyone in Rotterdam looking for a structured way to build confidence on the dance floor, this is the most practical entry point in the May line-up.

A free Latin night at Café Dox

On Wednesday 20 May, the programme continues with Latin Café Dox at the Nieuwe Luxor Theatre, where you can expect salsa and bachata with touches of merengue and kizomba. DJ Phily plays from 20:30 to 00:30, and entry is free, which makes this one of the easiest options of the month if you want to dance without buying a ticket first. More information is available via https://typicaltropical.nl/agenda/.

Taken together, the May schedule shows how broad the Typical Tropical scene has become in Rotterdam. You have the bigger club-style night at Grounds, a midweek party at Zoho, an outdoor event near Stadion Neptunus, a course programme for dancers who want continuity, and a free social evening at Café Dox. Whether you are already part of the salsa and bachata world or just circling it from the edge, May gives you several different doors into it.

Where the May events happen

The May programme is spread across several familiar Rotterdam venues: Grounds in Delfshaven, Zoho near the Zomerhofkwartier, Stadion Neptunus in Rotterdam West, the Typical Tropical Studios on Schiekade, and Café Dox at the Nieuwe Luxor on the Kop van Zuid. That makes this a city-wide month rather than a one-venue series, so it is worth checking the exact event page before you head out.

Grounds is at Pieter de Hoochweg 125, Rotterdam, a known live music and dance spot in Delfshaven.

Zoho is at Zomerhofstraat 71, Rotterdam, in the ZOHO area just north of the centre.

Typical Tropical Studios is at Schiekade 830, Rotterdam.

Café Dox is at Antoine Platekade 9, Rotterdam, next to the Nieuwe Luxor Theatre.
