Typical Tropical starts its September season with salsa and bachata courses, LatinXpress at Grounds and a free Latincafé Dox night.

Typical Tropical's September agenda: salsa, bachata and socials

ROTTERDAM, 24 August 2026 – September brings a busy start to the new dance season at Typical Tropical, with new salsa and bachata courses at its Schiekade studio, the monthly LatinXpress party at Grounds and a free Latincafé Dox evening at Café Dox. Whether you want to learn from scratch or already spend half your weekends on a dance floor, there are several chances to dance in Rotterdam next month.

The new course season begins during the week of 31 August, followed almost immediately by LatinXpress on Saturday 5 September. Later in the month, DJ Jarzino returns to Café Dox for a free Wednesday night of salsa and bachata.

New salsa and bachata courses

Typical Tropical starts its September season between Monday 31 August and Sunday 6 September at its studios on Schiekade. Classes cover salsa and several styles of bachata, including Dominican, Fusion and Sensual, with different levels available.

The regular programme consists of ten weekly one-hour lessons running until 8 November. There are also accelerated courses consisting of five two-hour classes, finishing on 4 October. The regular and accelerated courses both cost €135 per person or €260 per couple.

If you are not ready to commit to a full course, the first week also serves as trial week for the ten-week classes. A trial lesson costs €8.50 per person or €17 per couple. Typical Tropical notes that existing course registrations have priority and that a trial lesson does not guarantee a place in the course afterwards.

Lessons take place at Typical Tropical Studio at Schiekade 830. Classes normally involve changing partners during the lesson, although couples can also choose to dance together. Registration and the current lesson schedule can be found at https://typicaltropical.nl/inschrijven.

LatinXpress returns to Grounds

The first big party of the month follows on Saturday 5 September, when LatinXpress returns to Grounds in Delfshaven. The monthly event splits the venue into separate salsa and bachata rooms, allowing dancers to move between the two throughout the night.

The salsa room will be hosted by DJs Virgil and Charlie, while DJs Mo and El Pequeño Loco take over the bachata room. Doors open at 22:00 and the party continues until 03:30.

Grounds works particularly well for this format because the two dance styles do not have to compete for the same floor. The venue has a parquet dance floor, high ceilings, professional sound and lighting and a separate café area. Tropical food will be available from Huize Wekker, while RH Fotografie will be taking pictures during the night.

Presale tickets range from €10 for the limited Super Early Bird tier to €18.50 for late tickets. Tickets at the door cost €17.50 cash or €18.50 by card. You can book via https://typicaltropical.nl/e0uq. Rotterdam Uitagenda also lists LatinXpress on 3 October and 5 December, making it a recurring option if September does not fit your plans.

Free dancing at Café Dox

On Wednesday 16 September, Typical Tropical heads to Café Dox at the Nieuwe Luxor Theater for another edition of Latincafé Dox.

DJ Jarzino provides the music from 20:30 until 00:30, with the evening centred on salsa and bachata alongside occasional merengue and kizomba. Admission is completely free.

The midweek setting makes Dox a different proposition from LatinXpress. There are no separate rooms or all-night programme, just a social dance floor where you can drop in for a few hours after work or put some of those freshly learned September moves into practice.

Latincafé Dox is also listed on the regional Latin dance calendars for 16 September at 20:30. Café Dox itself is located at Antoine Platekade 9, next to the Nieuwe Luxor Theater on Wilhelminapier.
