HAPPENING 26 SEP '26 | Podium Islemunda is opening its doors for a free open day, with performances, workshops, films and activities running throughout the day in IJsselmonde. The programme brings together Podium Islemunda, Bibliotheek IJsselmonde, ICAF, SOL community centre (Huis van de Wijk IJsselmonde), Rotterdams Wijktheater and Stadskeuken IJsselmonde.
Workshops, films and backstage tours
The building opens at 10:00, giving you time to look through the programme in the foyer before activities begin at 11:00. The open day continues until 17:30 and is free to attend.
Throughout the day, you can join workshops and creative activities, see performances by local musicians and take a backstage tour of Podium Islemunda. Stadskeuken IJsselmonde will provide food during the day, while the cinema screens short films connected to IJsselmonde.
One of the films is Toen ik klein was, was ik niet bang by poet Gershwin Bonevacia, who grew up in IJsselmonde. Its Dutch title translates roughly as When I was little, I wasn't afraid.

Activities for children and families
Younger visitors can take part in arts and crafts and storytelling activities at Bibliotheek IJsselmonde. SOL will run a Happy Stones painting activity, while both Rotterdams Wijktheater and ICAF are organising theatre workshops.
The open day is designed to introduce you to the different cultural and community organisations sharing the building, while also offering a look at what normally happens behind the scenes.

Sea Sound Bigband closes the day
At 16:00, Sea Sound Bigband takes the stage with its new show Fiesta!. The programme mixes Latin rhythms and jazz with familiar pop songs and other selections from the band’s repertoire.
The performance serves as the musical finale to an afternoon built around culture, creativity and meeting the organisations active in IJsselmonde. The wider open day continues until 17:30.
