ROTTERDAM, 17 April 2026 – THOMS Underground Bar is set to reopen on Friday 24 April, bringing one of the Meent’s familiar late-night spots back into Rotterdam nightlife. The club space beneath THOMS will once again open every Friday and Saturday from 22:00 to 03:00.
After a period of closure, the Underground Bar is coming back with a refreshed interior and a clear focus on long nights, packed dancefloors and the kind of evenings that tend to run later than planned. Hidden beneath THOMS on the Meent, the venue has long held a place in Rotterdam’s nightlife memory.
“The Underground Bar belongs to THOMS,” says co-owner Thom van Zanten. “It is the place where the night really gets going. Being able to open it again feels like coming home. In the meantime, we have not been sitting still, the space has been completely refreshed and is ready for great nights out.”

Why the bar closed
The closure followed a licensing issue linked to municipal policy. According to THOMS, the existing permit was not sufficient to programme DJs in the basement on a structural basis, which meant the Underground Bar had to shut its doors for a time.
THOMS says it spent that period actively working on a solution, including talks with the municipality and a petition shared with the public. “We did everything we could to make this possible again,” says Van Zanten. “Not just for ourselves, but also because we really believe we add something to the city.”
Reopening night on 24 April
The reopening on Friday 24 April will be marked with a launch night led by Rotterdam DJs Doris Bae and QUINO. THOMS is framing the evening as a classic Underground Bar night, with familiar faces, a full dancefloor and the return of the venue’s established atmosphere.
The venue also says the reopening will not stop at one big night. In the first period after launch, visitors can expect various actions, surprise appearances by known DJs and more programming built around the return of the bar.
