ROTTERDAM, 29 May 2026 – Villa Kakelbont is turning into a World Cup pub from Thursday 11 June, showing every match that falls within its opening hours. The living-room café in the Halvemaanpassage will screen matches on at least three large screens, with sound, prediction pools, stamp cards and half-time entertainment.
Villa Kakelbont is a living-room café in the centre of Rotterdam, located on the Halvemaanpassage. Since opening in early March, the café has focused on nostalgia, games and spending time together. With its vintage interior, classic dishes and space for activities, Villa Kakelbont welcomes a wide mix of visitors, from after-work drinkers to families and groups of friends. The café is open six days a week.
Entry is free, reservations are not required and visitors can win prizes by making smart match predictions.
World Cup takes over Villa Kakelbont
A cold beer, big screens, match sound through the café and a room full of people getting just a bit too emotionally invested in the score. That is the idea behind Villa Kakelbont’s World Cup plans. The café wants to become Rotterdam’s World Cup headquarters this summer, giving football fans a central place to follow the tournament together.
Many cafés focus mainly on the Netherlands matches, but Villa Kakelbont is putting the entire tournament at the centre of its programme. From the first group match to the final, and from Oranje to the unexpected underdog suddenly winning over the whole room, the café will show every match that fits within its opening hours.

Big screens and match sound
Matches will be shown on multiple large screens, with sound throughout the venue. Villa Kakelbont wants to become a regular meeting spot for Rotterdammers who want to watch the World Cup together, even on days when the Netherlands is not playing.
“Our living room is there for everyone,” says co-owner Thom van Zanten. “For Oranje fans, supporters of other countries and people who simply fancy a good football match.”
Pool, stamps and prizes
During the World Cup, Villa Kakelbont is adding more than just 90 minutes of football. Before kick-off, visitors can join a match pool and fill in their prediction. Get it right, and you could win a prize. Regular visitors can also collect stamps and benefit from extra offers during the tournament.
The programme will continue during half-time with entertainment inside the café. The aim is to keep the energy up, even when the referee blows for the break.
“We don’t want the pace to drop as soon as the referee blows for half-time,” says Thom.
Football living room in Rotterdam
Villa Kakelbont is inviting visitors to bring friends, colleagues, neighbours and fellow supporters. Football shirts are very much welcome, whether you are backing the Netherlands or another favourite country.
“We are going big for this World Cup,” says Thom. “We are turning Villa Kakelbont into one big football living room this summer, with everything that comes with it. Wear something from your favourite country, bring your friends and come watch together.”
