The fifteenth edition of Baroeg Open Air, organised by Rotterdam's oldest music venue, Baroeg, will once again bring the best of hard and alternative music to Zuiderpark. Set for Saturday, 14 September 2024, the festival is expected to draw significant crowds, following last year’s record-breaking attendance at its first sold-out edition.
Baroeg Open Air lineup 2024
This year's line-up features a broad range of musical styles, from the heavy rock sounds of headliners Dool to the drum 'n’ bass beats of Black Sun Empire. Fans of metal can look forward to performances by Primordial and Ill Niño, while those who enjoy reggaepunk and punk rock will find Jaya The Cat and Skroetbalg on stage. Dance music enthusiasts will have the chance to experience the psytrance of Juno Reactor Band, the electro-folk of Eurovision act Go_A, and the old-school industrial vibes of Combichrist.
Over thirty national and international acts will perform across four stages. In addition to the music, the festival will feature a beer garden, a 'Friends of Baroeg' lounge, and a festival market. A special attraction this year will be the eight-member band Heavy Hoempa, who will entertain attendees with various hard rock and metal covers at different locations throughout the festival grounds.
Celebrating Rotterdam talent
Leon van Rijnsbergen, director and head programmer of Baroeg, highlighted the significance of the diverse programme, particularly the inclusion of Rotterdam's own Dool as a headliner on the Jupiler Stage. "We have created a line-up to be proud of," Van Rijnsbergen stated. "Dool, led by Raven van Dorst, who is also an ambassador for Friends of Baroeg, has made a significant impact both nationally and internationally in recent years. Similarly, Black Sun Empire from Utrecht will close the Electronic Stage with their well-produced, layered, and explosive drum 'n' bass."
An inclusive festival atmosphere
Baroeg Open Air is known for its welcoming atmosphere, bringing together like-minded music enthusiasts in a setting that focuses on enjoyment and camaraderie. "It is wonderful to see how much the festival is appreciated by its visitors, as evidenced by the audience surveys we conduct every year," Van Rijnsbergen noted. "For many, both in the audience and within the organisation, the festival is the absolute highlight of the year. We could not achieve this without the dedication and enthusiasm of our team of 300 volunteers, and I am looking forward to organising another fantastic festival with them."
Planning for a larger crowd
The organisers expect another large turnout this year. "Last year, Baroeg Open Air was sold out for the first time, with 10,000 attendees," Van Rijnsbergen explained. "This year, we are expanding the grounds to accommodate 12,500 music lovers. We have also added more coin machines and larger bars to minimise queues. We have learned from previous editions and aim to provide the best possible festival experience for our visitors."
The festival grounds will open at 12:00, with the first band taking the stage at 12:30. The final performances will conclude at 22:15. Children up to 12 years of age are granted free admission when accompanied by an adult.
