ROTTERDAM, 3 December 2024 – Rotterdam's Baroeg, renowned as a stage for alternative music, is undergoing redevelopment. The historic venue is set to reopen in 2025, promising a fresh start for its loyal audience.
The new Baroeg redevelopment project begins
Baroeg, Rotterdam's oldest pop stage known for its focus on (heavy) alternative music, has officially started the construction of its new building. The redevelopment, located at its long-standing site on Spinozaweg 300, follows the demolition of the original structure.
On Monday, 16 December 2024, an event marking the beginning of construction will be held, including a ceremonial address by alderman Simons. The celebration will also feature a performance by Robert & De Mooie Meneren, known for delivering classic rock hits.
This public event, scheduled from 14:00 to 16:00, invites local residents, former and current staff, and stakeholders of the project to gather and commemorate the start of this new chapter in Baroeg's history.
Preserving the essence of Baroeg
The new building is expected to maintain the intimate atmosphere that Baroeg is cherished for, ensuring it remains a community space where audiences connect, emerging talents are nurtured, and vibrant events take place.
The project is anticipated to take approximately one year to complete, with an expected reopening at the end of 2025. In the meantime, Baroeg will host performances under the name "Baroeg On Tour," utilising venues such as Rotown, Maassilo, Podium Grounds, Roodkapje, SoundVille, and the V11 ship. Additionally, the annual Baroeg Open Air festival will continue at Zuiderpark.
