DoubleTree and Haven Hotel reopen on Rotterdam’s Leuvehaven

DoubleTree and Haven Hotel reopen on Rotterdam’s Leuvehaven

ROTTERDAM, 19 September 2025 – Two hotels on the Leuvehaven have reopened following major renovations. DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre and Haven Hotel Rotterdam, Curio Collection by Hilton, are once again welcoming guests.

A historic spot on the Maas

The reopening took place on Thursday 18 September during a gathering of around 500 invited guests. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the moment when the hotels officially returned to service after a lengthy renovation. The location is steeped in history. In the seventeenth century, the Leuvehaven was at the heart of Rotterdam’s trade and shipping. Today it still connects the city with the river Maas, while offering direct access to landmarks such as the Maritime Museum, the Markthal, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Kop van Zuid.

The two properties stand side by side and are physically connected, together forming a prominent presence on the waterfront. The Maasgebouw, home to DoubleTree, was originally designed in the style of a cruise ship and has long been part of the city skyline.

DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre

DoubleTree has been thoroughly modernised inside. Guest rooms provide views over the Erasmus Bridge and the river, while the hotel’s 16th-floor hall offers a panoramic setting for conferences, receptions and private dinners. These spaces make it attractive for both business and leisure visitors.

On the ground floor, dō deli bar bistro has opened as a new addition to the city’s dining scene. The venue takes cues from European café culture and serves food and drinks throughout the day. Dishes include a quinoa bowl, a focaccia with chickpeas, and a classic Negroni.

Haven Hotel Rotterdam

Next door, Haven Hotel Rotterdam has joined the Curio Collection by Hilton as the first property in the Netherlands under this label. The design draws on the maritime character of the Leuvehaven, using materials and details inspired by Rotterdam’s port history. Rooms and suites are set up as retreats from the busy city, with warm tones and comfortable amenities such as kingsize beds. Several suites are fitted with a private sauna or jacuzzi.

The hotel lobby houses LOEF Living Room & Café, where the menu references Dutch culinary traditions, including smoked eel and shrimp cocktail. Wellness facilities will open on 1 November, featuring a hammam, sauna, steam bath and swimming pool, alongside a refurbished fitness centre.

New restaurant opening in October

Culinary plans will expand further in October with the arrival of Calan Restaurant & Bar in Haven Hotel. The name recalls Pieter Caland, the engineer who designed the Nieuwe Waterweg. The kitchen will be led by executive chef Michael Verhagen, previously active at the Michelin-starred Fitzgerald. He has indicated that the menu will highlight the diverse food cultures that have shaped Rotterdam, ranging from Surinamese and Indonesian to Moroccan influences.

Local and international connection

The reopening adds capacity to Rotterdam’s hotel sector at a time when the city continues to attract both international business and cultural visitors. The hotels are part of Hilton Honors, Hilton’s global loyalty programme, which allows members to collect points, book with flexible payment, and use the Hilton app for managing stays.

For Rotterdam residents, the new dining concepts provide additional places to meet, while the event spaces on the upper floors add to the city’s portfolio of venues with a view over the Maas.
