HAPPENING 28 OCT–2 NOV 2025 | Rotterdam is about to unwrap one of its most curious retail experiences: a pop-up store dedicated entirely to ‘lost parcels’. French start-up King Colis will open a temporary shop inside Alexandrium Shopping Center, where visitors can dig through thousands of undelivered packages, each filled with unknown treasures waiting to be discovered.
The concept
King Colis buys up lost or unclaimed online orders — items that would otherwise be destroyed — and gives them a second life. Instead of waste, these parcels become part of a sustainable retail adventure. Shoppers can expect a warehouse-style setup with over 10 tonnes of parcels ready for purchase. The twist? You don’t know what’s inside until you get home.
From electronics and designer clothes to accessories, games, beauty products and even sex toys, every parcel is sold by weight, adding an element of fairness and surprise to the experience.
How it works
Visitors are given 10 minutes to pick their parcels from the bins. Opening them in-store is not allowed — that would spoil the fun. Pricing is based on weight:
- Standard parcels: €1.99 per 100 grams
- Premium parcels: €2.79 per 100 grams
“It’s the mystery that makes it exciting,” says King Colis co-founder Killian Denis. “You never know whether you’ll find a hair straightener, a smartwatch, or a pair of sneakers — but that’s exactly the point.”
A sustainable spin on shopping
Each year, millions of online packages go missing due to incorrect addresses or failed deliveries. While most logistics companies destroy these items after refunding customers, King Colis rescues them and resells them through eco-friendly pop-ups across Europe.
By doing so, the company tackles waste, promotes sustainable consumption, and gives consumers the thrill of a modern-day treasure hunt. Previous editions in Utrecht, Eindhoven, and Amstelveen drew long queues and viral social-media reactions, with shoppers comparing their “unboxing” moments at home.
