HAPPENING 21–22 NOV 2025 | Het Industriegebouw will host a two-day pop-up bookshop on 21 and 22 November. BIG BOOKS brings together writers, publishers and readers for a weekend of talks, signings and gift inspiration in the centre of Rotterdam.
The event transforms the Goudsesingel landmark into a temporary bookshop filled with selected titles and a programme focused on language, design and the city. Visitors can browse new releases, have a personalised poem written by Wessel Klootwijk or pick up a signed copy of Susan Bijl’s latest book Inside The New Shopping Bag. The first twenty buyers receive a complimentary shopper in Bijl’s recognisable design.
A weekend shaped by books, design and Rotterdam voices
BIG BOOKS is organised in collaboration with nai010 publishers, Time to Momo, mo’media and Trichis. The programme includes talks on Dutch design by Joline van den Oever and Pauline Egge (Petite Passport), followed by conversations with architects, designers and writers such as Sofie van Brunschot and Jeroen Junte. Their recent publications Gebouwen door Vrouwen: Rotterdam and Nieuwe iconen form the starting point for discussions on architecture and the city.
On Saturday, Susan Bijl leads a signing session and shares insights from her work. Author Sylvia Meijer-Villafane presents her favourite Rotterdam locations, while poet Willem F. Hueting closes the day by reading from his collection Chronische Liefde, a series of poems shaped by Feyenoord and the city’s football culture.
Ten years of Het Industriegebouw
BIG BOOKS is part of the cultural programming celebrating the building’s tenth anniversary as a public creative hub. Since its transformation in 2015, Het Industriegebouw has grown into a community of more than two hundred creative businesses, shops and food spots. What once functioned mainly as an office building has become an accessible meeting place for residents and visitors.
According to the organisers, the event highlights the variety of ideas and collaborations that emerge within the building. BIG BOOKS brings together writers, publishers and designers while inviting the wider public to step inside.
