Free ice skating at Woonmall Alexandrium from 17 October

HAPPENING 17 OCT–15 NOV '26 | Woonmall Alexandrium is opening a free pop-up ice rink inside the shopping centre, with free skate hire available throughout the four-week run. The opening and closing weekends will also feature figure-skating shows and free clinics for adults and children.

The rink opens on Saturday 17 October as part of Woonmall Alexandrium's 30th anniversary celebrations. Visitors can skate during the Woonmall's regular opening hours until Sunday 15 November, making it an unusual indoor activity during Rotterdam's autumn school holiday and the weeks that follow.

You do not need to bring your own skates. Loan skates are available free of charge, while lockers are provided for personal belongings. The rink can accommodate up to 30 skaters at a time, so sessions may be divided into rounds when it gets busy.

Free skating and shows during the opening weekend

The opening weekend on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October combines public skating with music from Deejay Jerome, figure-skating performances and clinics organised by Duosport.

The published programme includes figure-skating shows from 13:00 to 13:20 and 15:30 to 15:50, with two clinics scheduled between 14:00 and 15:00. The clinics are suitable for both adults and children.

Participation in skating and the clinics is free. Children must skate under the supervision of a parent or accompanying adult, and the organisation notes that skating is at your own risk. First aid will be available on site.

The figure skaters return during the closing weekend on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November for another round of shows and clinics. Exact times for that weekend may be announced separately.

Part of Woonmall Alexandrium's 30th anniversary

The ice rink is part of the shopping centre's wider 30th anniversary programme, called 30 jaar, 30 redenen om binnen te komen, or 30 years, 30 reasons to come inside.

Other anniversary activities have included live music, workshops and wooncurling, a playful variation on curling using home furnishings rather than traditional curling stones. Visitors can also take part in a competition offering a total of €30,000 in shopping vouchers.

Woonmall Alexandrium has been operating in Rotterdam Alexander for 30 years and now brings together more than 50 shops focused on furniture, kitchens, bedrooms and other home products.
