MyWheels adds 30 electric shared cars in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, 30 April 2026 – MyWheels has added 30 electric shared cars in Rotterdam, bringing its local fleet to around 230 electric vehicles. The expansion gives residents and businesses more options for electric car sharing across the city.

The latest addition follows an earlier expansion in March, when MyWheels added 15 electric shared cars and new electric vans to its Rotterdam fleet.

The new electric shared cars will be spread across different neighbourhoods in Rotterdam. They are available for private and business use and can be reserved through the MyWheels app. MyWheels says its existing 200 shared cars in Rotterdam currently cover almost 300,000 kilometres every month. That is around 7.5 times around the Earth, which is a slightly ridiculous but useful way to picture just how much these cars are being used.

Shared cars go fully electric

Since January, all shared cars in Rotterdam have been fully electric as part of the city’s sustainable mobility policy. Rotterdam is the first city in the Netherlands to make that step. The policy is meant to reduce CO₂ emissions, improve air quality and encourage a more sustainable way of using cars in the city. For Rotterdam, where space on the street is always under pressure, electric car sharing also supports the wider shift away from private car ownership.

Electric vans add extra use

The expansion is not limited to regular cars. MyWheels has also been adding electric vans, making the service useful for larger errands, bulky purchases or moving house without needing to own a vehicle.

“With this expansion, we are increasing our offer of shared cars and electric vans in Rotterdam,” says Joppe de Hoog, City Manager Rotterdam and The Hague at MyWheels. “This makes it possible for more people not only to use a car when needed, but also to easily reserve a van for larger items or, for example, a move.”

MyWheels expands local access

MyWheels is a shared car platform with more than 250,000 members. The company says it has the widest and most varied range of electric shared cars in the Netherlands.

The platform works with around 800 volunteer key figures (Sleutelfiguren), who help make shared cars available locally. The idea is simple: use a car when you need one, without having to own one, while reducing pressure on parking space and street use.

Rotterdam mobility keeps shifting

Rotterdam’s shared mobility scene has changed quickly in recent years, from shared bikes and scooters to electric cars and vans. The MyWheels expansion adds another layer to that shift, especially in neighbourhoods where owning a car is expensive, inconvenient or simply unnecessary most of the time.
