HAPPENING 13 SEP 2026 | Fiesta Futura makes its Rotterdam debut in the Zuiderpark on Sunday 13 September, bringing Los Bitchos, Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem, Balkan Paradise Orchestra, Tabanka and more to a free festival built around global party music and the atmosphere of an exuberant wedding.

Fiesta Futura takes place on Sunday 13 September 2026 from 13:00 to 22:30 in Rotterdam's Zuiderpark. Admission is free and you do not need a ticket.

The first edition turns the park into what organisers call a space for dancing, meeting and discovery, with brass, Balkan music, cumbia, electro and other party sounds from different parts of the world. Alongside the concerts there will be a food court, a festive market and a children's programme.

Fiesta Futura 2026 line-up

The main programme is now complete, with ten acts announced for the first Fiesta Futura.

British group Los Bitchos combine cumbia, surf rock, Turkish psychedelia, Latin American rhythms and disco. The band have toured extensively across Europe, North America and Australia and have appeared at festivals including Glastonbury and Coachella.

Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem bring together acoustic music, electronic beats and club culture. Shantel is widely associated with the crossover between Balkan music and contemporary European dance music, including his track Disko Partizani.

Cuban singer Evelyn Dupuy will make her first Rotterdam appearance at the festival, drawing on salsa, Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms.

Fabijan Balkan Brass Band combines Serbian and German influences, while Rotterdam collective TECA, short for The Ensemble of Cultural Approximation, brings its self-described Shroombia sound, inspired by a range of Latin American musical styles.

They join the five acts announced earlier: Barcelona's Balkan Paradise Orchestra, French group La Caravane Passe, Rotterdam-based Cape Verdean group Tabanka, Finnish band Muovipussi and Dutch group De Baron.

Balkan Paradise Orchestra combines brass, woodwind and percussion with rhythms and melodies drawn from the Iberian peninsula and beyond. La Caravane Passe mixes music from eastern and southern Europe with Parisian and hip-hop influences.

Tabanka offers a contemporary take on Cape Verdean funaná, while Muovipussi combines rap, pop, metal and punk energy. De Baron moves between Sahara rock, Dutch levenslied and punk.

Workshops and activities for kids

Fiesta Futura goes well beyond the music stages, with workshops and activities running from 13:00 to 19:00 across the festival site. You can try Brazilian capoeira and juggling with the Kriya family, learn samba and Cape Verdean dance with Rotterdam choreographer Lita Morena, or join Ana Bariç of Balkan Fusion Dance for an introduction to dancing to Balkan music.

There are creative activities too. Je-Anne Dirksz introduces the Aruban tradition of making and flying colourful kites, while Hand of Fatima offers henna decorations inspired by Moroccan traditions. Calligrapher Tawab Safi can create a personalised piece of hand lettering, and Stichting Proteas turns its online book club into a physical reading and colouring corner where children can take a book home afterwards.

A Selfie Spot photo booth also forms part of the programme. Photos cost €5, although Rotterdampas holders and visitors who complete the Rotterdam Festivals survey can have a photo taken free of charge. Festival market in the Zuiderpark

If you fancy browsing between performances, Fiesta Futura also has a market with independent sellers offering clothing, records, jewellery, homeware and other finds.

The announced stalls include Atelier Zaterdag with vintage clothing, Ephemeris Records with vinyl, Gina with hats, AURA S.O.U.L. with jewellery and Maison Arabique with lamps. You can also find freshly pressed oil from Salah de Olieperser, sea-inspired pieces from Sea Diamonds, African jewellery, bags and kimonos from Thissy, plus Vintage & Antique Prints and a stall selling bracelets and other accessories.

Get married for a day at My Big Fat Roffa Wedding

Fiesta Futura's wedding theme becomes literal at My Big Fat Roffa Wedding. Four pairs will take part in symbolic one-day wedding ceremonies in De Bruiloftsschuur, a dedicated part of the festival.

These are not legal marriages. Fiesta Futura provides the outfits, photographer, speeches, drinks and ceremonial hosts, with each couple also getting a first dance.

The four celebrations are accompanied by different musical traditions. Fabijan Balkan Brass Band & Balkan Fusion Dance bring Balkan brass and dance, Matsa Ranga plays traditional music associated with the Greek islands, Omar Alshahari brings music inspired by Yemeni wedding traditions and Moroccan singer Wassima performs across several genres.

You do not need to get married to join the fun. Festival visitors can watch the ceremonies and take part in wedding-themed activities including bouquet throwing and workshops around writing a memorable, or deliberately terrible, wedding speech.

A new Sunday festival in the Zuiderpark

Fiesta Futura forms part of a September festival weekend in the Zuiderpark. Baroeg Open Air is scheduled in the park on 11 and 12 September, followed by Fiesta Futura on Sunday 13 September.

The two events have sharply different musical identities. Baroeg Open Air focuses on heavier and alternative music, while Fiesta Futura switches the atmosphere towards brass, Balkan, cumbia, electronic music and other celebratory sounds.

The shared weekend reflects a broader push to make festival infrastructure more efficient. Stages, technical facilities and other site infrastructure can be used by more than one event, reducing some of the costs involved in building a temporary festival site.

Part of a changing festival calendar on Rotterdam Zuid

Fiesta Futura emerged as Rotterdam's festival calendar on Zuid was changing. After the long-running Metropolis Festival ended following the loss of much of its subsidy, Rotterdam Festivals invited organisers to propose new concepts for available dates in the Zuiderpark.

The resulting programme has brought several new events to the park, with free admission remaining an important part of the city's approach to accessible cultural events.

Food, market and children's activities

Music is only part of the Fiesta Futura programme. The festival will also have a food court and a festive market featuring products connected with different cultures.

Children will have their own programme during the festival. Visitors aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by a parent or other adult.

How to get to Fiesta Futura

Fiesta Futura takes place in the Zuiderpark in Rotterdam Zuid. The organisers recommend travelling by public transport, bicycle or on foot. Metro and bus stations Zuidplein and Slinge are both within walking distance and are served by metro lines D and E. Bus services including 44, 68 and 70 also serve the area. If you travel by car, remember that paid parking applies in the neighbourhoods around the festival site. P+R Slinge is one alternative. The festival is wheelchair accessible, although moving through the site can become more difficult when it is busy. Recognised assistance animals are permitted.
