HAPPENING 22 OCT '26 | The European Outdoor Film Tour returns to Rotterdam on Thursday 22 October, bringing its 2026 adventure film programme to Theater Zuidplein for one night. The evening combines climbing, freeriding, highlining and whitewater kayaking, with five documentaries following athletes pursuing projects that have sometimes taken years to realise.
EOFT at Theater Zuidplein
The Rotterdam edition of the European Outdoor Film Tour takes place in the Grote Zaal at Theater Zuidplein on Thursday 22 October at 19:30. Doors open at 19:00 and seating is unreserved.
The films account for around 120 minutes of screen time, with live hosting and an interval bringing the complete evening to approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Films are shown in their original languages with subtitles in the local language.
EOFT has been bringing outdoor and adventure films to cinemas and theatres for 25 years. This year’s Rotterdam programme ranges from a difficult climbing route rising directly from the Aegean Sea to a highline expedition above one of the world’s tallest waterfalls.
The common thread is less about records than the projects behind them. Several of the athletes return to ambitions they have carried with them for years, while others revisit what adventure means after careers, families or changing relationships with their sport.

In Bravo Les Filles, climbers Sasha DiGiulian and Mariana ‘Mango’ Ordoñez attempt to free-climb the route Bravo Les Filles as an all-female rope team. Their project picks up an ambition left unfinished by a group led by Lynn Hill in 1999, connecting two generations of female climbers.
Wand in Sicht heads to the Greek island of Amorgos, where climber Philipp Hans wants to establish a new 250-metre route rising almost directly from the sea. His brother Moritz and childhood friend Falk join the expedition, but weather in the Aegean complicates their attempt. The film runs for 27 minutes and was made by Philipp Hans and Simone Miller.

Together, the two films approach climbing from different directions. One revisits a route and an earlier generation of climbers, while the other follows the process of creating something new on untouched rock.
Both also spend time on what happens before anyone reaches the top, including preparation, collaboration and the uncertainties that can derail a carefully planned project.

La Source du Freeride follows Swiss snowboarder Emilien Badoux after his Freeride World Tour victory. Together with Géraldine Fasnacht, he searches for the sense of freedom that first drew him to freeriding while helping teach a new generation to approach the mountains with respect for the natural environment.
That new generation includes Liam Rivera, who begins as a pupil and eventually succeeds Badoux as a freeride champion.

Six Days to the Edge moves from snow to the Venezuelan rainforest. Slackliner Lukas Irmler has spent 17 years dreaming of stretching a highline across Angel Falls, with around 1,000 metres of open air beneath him.
Six friends have six days to reach the site, travelling through savannah, rivers, mud and dense vegetation before climbing Auyán-Tepui and attempting the crossing.

Kayaking into Icelandic water
The final announced film, I Follow Rivers, centres on Norwegian kayaker Mariann Sæther and a waterfall that has remained on her mind for two decades.
Sæther wants to kayak Aldeyjarfoss in the Icelandic highlands. Her ambition survived two world championship titles and becoming a mother, turning the expedition into a broader story about the tension between personal freedom and responsibility.

That makes I Follow Rivers slightly different from a straightforward extreme-sports film. The physical challenge remains central, but so does the question of how an old dream fits into a life that has changed around it.
The five films together form the programme currently presented by EOFT for its 2026/27 tour, spanning climbing, snowboarding, slacklining and kayaking.

Tickets for the Rotterdam screening cost €22 in advance, with a reduced €20 ticket for pupils and students. EOFT also lists a €20.50 group ticket for the Rotterdam date.

How to get there
Theater Zuidplein is at Gooilandsingel 95, 3083 DP Rotterdam, directly beside Zuidplein metro and bus station. From Rotterdam Centraal, take metro line D towards De Akkers or line E towards Slinge and get off at Zuidplein; the theatre is across from the bus station next to Zwemcentrum Rotterdam. The theatre currently recommends public transport because roadworks around Zuidplein can affect access by car. (Theater Zuidplein)
