RiF010 to host Rotterdam Surf Open for its grand opening
On Saturday, 6 July 2024, RiF010, Rotterdam's new urban surf pool, will officially open with the first edition of the Rotterdam Surf Open. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a series of surfing competitions and live music performances.
The event will be held at RiF010, which aims to establish a global reputation as the first urban surf pool, offering waves suitable for surfers of all levels. The venue features a wooden beach house, a unique terrace, and clean water in the RiF010 basin. RiF010 is committed to sustainability, using wind energy and providing professional oversight and instruction.
Surf competitions and opening ceremony
The day's events will commence at 10:30 with the Rotterdam School Competition for children and a longboard competition. Notable participants include Ben Skinner, who placed third in the Longboard World Championships, and the Dutch longboard champion. The official opening ceremony, led by Councillor Faouzi Achbar, will take place at 12:00, followed by a performance from the party band Convoi Exceptional.
Afternoon events and competitions
At 14:00, the shortboard competition for participants under 18 will begin, followed by the open surf contest and the professional surf competition. The competitions will feature both local and international surfers, with opportunities for participants to compete against renowned professionals. A certified jury will be present to evaluate the performances.

Music and festivities
Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy live music from the Rotterdam party band Convoi Exceptional, Pat Smith, and Longo Longo. DJs Billy Ray de la Haye and Bootsy Paul will also perform, providing a variety of musical entertainment. Food and drink will be available at RiF010, with views of the surfing action from the quay.
