ROTTERDAM, 17 April 2026 – RiF010 has added a new reason to head to the Steigersgracht. Hang Bar & Kitchen is now open beside the surfpool behind the Markthal, turning the city centre surf spot into an all-day place for coffee, lunch, drinks and dinner.
RiF010 already gave Rotterdam something you do not see every day: a surfpool in the middle of the city, tucked behind the Markthal and framed by the water of the Steigersgracht. Now that same spot is expanding beyond surfing with the arrival of Hang Bar & Kitchen, a new bar and restaurant right on the water.
That's cool because you no longer need to book surf time or even touch a board to enjoy the place. You can simply walk in for a coffee, settle in for lunch, or stay on for a drink while watching surfers ride the waves a few metres away. It is a smart next step for a location that already felt unlike anywhere else in Rotterdam.
Hang Bar & Kitchen: all-day hangout
The new venue is being positioned as an all-day hangout rather than a side counter for hungry surfers. The menu, for now at least, includes breakfast and brunch items such as an açaí bowl, granola, banana bread and egg dishes, alongside sandwiches, salads, burgers, bitterballen, loaded fries, fish, steak and a full drinks list with wine, beer and cocktails.
That broader setup fits the location. RiF010 has always had the novelty factor, but Hang Bar & Kitchen gives it more everyday appeal. You can now drop by even if surfing is the last thing on your mind, which makes this feel less like a sports venue with food and more like a new waterside hotspot that happens to have a surfpool attached.

There is also a clear social angle to the expansion. RiF010 is promoting group packages and events that can be paired with activities such as surfing, SUP and canoeing, while the venue’s plans include recurring concepts like Thirsty Thursday and Music Night. That suggests the space is meant to grow into a broader meeting place at the water’s edge, rather than staying a niche destination for surf fans.
For Rotterdam, that feels like a natural move. Our city is at its best when it finds new ways to use the water, and RiF010 is leaning into exactly that. Behind the Markthal, with the skyline close by and the surfpool in constant motion, Hang Bar & Kitchen adds a fresh layer to one of the more original places to spend time in the centre.
Opening hours
Hang Bar & Kitchen is open throughout the week from 10-:00 to 20:30, with longer hours on Friday (22:30) and Saturday (23:30). If you want to browse the food and drinks first, RiF010 has also published the menu online, alongside more details about the venue and event options.
That makes this one worth keeping on your radar whether you are after a casual coffee by the water, a sunny lunch, or a new city-centre spot for evening drinks with a bit more character than usual. In a city that likes places with a story, RiF010 now has another one to tell.
How to get there
Hang Bar & Kitchen is at RiF010, Steiger 2, Rotterdam, right behind the Markthal in the Laurenskwartier area. You can easily reach it on foot from Rotterdam Blaak station, which connects to trains, metro and trams, and it is also a short walk from the Binnenrotte and Oude Haven.
