Typical Tropical events in Rotterdam this May 2025

HAPPENING May 2025 | Dance school Typical Tropical presents its programme for May 2025, with events and courses planned across Rotterdam. Highlights include LatinXpress, a free café evening and fast-track dance lessons.

LatinXpress returns to Podium Grounds on 3 May

Typical Tropical will kick off its May activities with LatinXpress on Saturday 3 May at Podium Grounds (Pieter de Hoochweg 125, Rotterdam). The evening event features separate Salsa and Bachata rooms, with DJ sets from Gilly, Virgil, Rachella and Brian K.

Doors open at 22:00 and the event continues until 03:30. Food will be provided by Huize Wekker, and RH Fotografie will be present to capture the night. Entry tickets are available in advance for €15 or at the door for €17.50 (cash) or €18.50 (pin). Drinks can be purchased with cash or card, while the cloakroom costs €1 per item (cash only). Toilets are free. Parking becomes free after 23:00.

Directions to Podium Grounds

Podium Grounds is located at Pieter de Hoochweg 125 in the Delfshaven area of Rotterdam. The venue is reachable by tram and metro (Coolhaven or Delfshaven stations), and offers ample free parking after 23:00. The area is known for its blend of cultural venues, historic architecture, and modern eateries.

Fast-track dance courses start 19 May

From 19 to 25 May, Typical Tropical will begin a new round of fast-track (versnelde) five-week courses in Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba. These are open to all levels and led by experienced instructors aiming to create an accessible and relaxed learning atmosphere.

Courses take place at two locations:

• Typical Tropical Studios, Schiekade 830, Rotterdam

• Meyer et Fils, Henegouwerlaan 53B, Rotterdam (Monday classes)

In addition to the lessons, participants are encouraged to attend social events to practise what they have learnt.

Enrolment is open via the Typical Tropical website. Be sure to look for 'versneld' in the course titles.

Free Latincafé Dox at Nieuwe Luxor on 21 May

A free edition of Latincafé Dox will take place on Wednesday 21 May in collaboration with the Nieuwe Luxor Theater. The event will be held at Café Dox (Antoine Platekade 9), overlooking the Rijnhaven.

DJ El Pequeño Loco will be playing Salsa, Bachata, with occasional Merengue and Kizomba tracks. Entry is free and the event runs from 20:30 to 00:30. Attendees are welcome to signal their attendance via Facebook, although it is not mandatory. Parking in the area is free after 23:00 or available in nearby paid garages.
