About ICONS 100: Miles & Coltrane
Tai Allen and Reg Wyns present ICONS 100: Miles & Coltrane – The Classics & The Samples, a live celebration of the centenary year of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
The project also looks at the music and influence of Oscar Brown, Ray Brown and Lou Donaldson, all part of a remarkable generation of jazz and soul artists born in 1926. Their work continues to echo through generations of musicians, with the programme drawing connections to artists including Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, The Pharcyde, Minnie Riperton and others.
The title The Classics & The Samples is quite literal. Reg Wyns' history with Us3 provides one of those connections: Cantaloop incorporates a sample from Lou Donaldson. Tai Allen's work, meanwhile, has been compared with singer, poet and political activist Oscar Brown.
Allen and Wyns will be joined by Emanuel Ruffler on keys, who has played with Miles Davis disciple Wallace Roney, and John Lander on bass, keys and vocals. Together, the musicians will revisit jazz history while exploring some of the music that grew from it.
Date, time, location and tickets
The concert takes place at Grounds, Pieter de Hoochweg 125, 3024 BG Rotterdam, on Friday 11 September 2026. Doors open at 20:00 and the concert begins at 21:00.
Tickets are currently priced at €12.50 early bird, €15 in pre-sale plus a €1 service fee, and €17.50 at the door.
