Dead Butterflies

Texas band Dead Butterflies comes to Rotown with an emotional collision of Midwest emo, screamo and post-hardcore.

Formed in Fort Worth, the band takes inspiration from earlier generations of emo while pushing the sound in less expected directions. Synths, trombone and electronic samples sit alongside distorted guitars and raw vocals, allowing the songs to move from fragile passages into euphoric crescendos. Fans of Title Fight, Your Arms Are My Cocoon, Cap’n Jazz and American Football should find plenty of familiar ground.

Frontman Micah Zimmer started Dead Butterflies in 2023 after discovering Your Arms Are My Cocoon. With no money for studio sessions, he recorded the earliest material in his bedroom using a Focusrite interface and a guitar plugged directly into it. That DIY approach remains part of the band’s identity as the project has grown into a full live ensemble.
