ROTTERDAM, 20 March 2026 – If you are thinking about going to Art Rotterdam but have no idea where to begin, here is a useful starting point. We have managed to get our hands on a list of galleries worth keeping an eye on this year, with several Rotterdam names standing out straight away.
Art Rotterdam returns to Rotterdam Ahoy from 27 to 29 March 2026, bringing together more than 150 galleries from the Netherlands and abroad across painting, photography, sculpture, installation and moving image. For many visitors, that scale is part of the appeal, but it can also make the fair feel a bit overwhelming if you are walking in without a plan.
That is why this shortlist is useful. And if you are coming at it from a Rotterdam angle, the local galleries are the first place to look.

Start with the Rotterdam galleries
Four Rotterdam galleries in particular deserve your attention at this year’s fair: Contour Gallery, JOEY RAMONE, Gallery Untitled and NL=US Art. Together, they give you a strong cross-section of what Rotterdam’s gallery scene does well right now, from photography and sculpture to concept-driven installations and contemporary painting.
Contour Gallery
Contour Gallery has built a name around sculpture, photography and photo-based art, often working at the edges of the photographic medium. At Art Rotterdam, the gallery is presenting a dialogue between Saidou Dicko and Anni Mertens, with themes of vulnerability, materiality and transformation running through the presentation. Dicko starts from photography but uses it as a point of departure rather than an endpoint, while Mertens works with ceramic forms that feel both bodily and industrial. This one is likely to appeal if you like work that feels tactile, layered and quietly thoughtful. Stand E9, Unseen Encounters.

JOEY RAMONE
JOEY RAMONE, one of Rotterdam’s more distinctive artist-linked galleries, is bringing work by Linhuei Chen, a Taiwanese-Dutch artist based in the city. Her presentation centres on the project 1953, inspired by the Dutch dunes and the 1953 North Sea flood. Chen uses painting alongside drawing, objects and installation to look at the relationship between landscape, memory and vulnerability. That makes this one feel especially resonant in a Dutch context, and especially in Rotterdam, where water history is never far from view. Stand J22, Solo/Duo.

Gallery Untitled
Gallery Untitled has grown from an informal creative meeting place in a living room into one of Rotterdam’s larger galleries, while keeping an open and accessible identity. At Art Rotterdam, it is showing a wider group presentation that reflects that philosophy. Expect work by Driessens & Van den Baar, Carlijn Kingma, Floris Hovers, Sander Buijk and Lenny Oosterwijk. There is a nice spread here, from sun-exposed wool works that echo early photography to hand-drawn maps of social systems, sculpture, design and poetic landscape photography. If you want one Rotterdam stand that gives you several entry points at once, this is a good one. Stand C6, Main Section.

NL=US Art
NL=US Art, also based in Rotterdam, is taking a more spatial and perceptual route. The gallery is presenting work by Esther Jiskoot, Alexandra Roozen, Jan Maarten Voskuil and Julius Stahl, artists who each approach form, space and perception in their own way. You can expect sculptural hybrid forms, large-scale drawing, spatial painting and minimalist installations involving wire, aluminium and light. This sounds like one for visitors who enjoy work that changes the way you move through space and notice structure. Stand G05, Main Section.

Other galleries worth watching
Beyond the Rotterdam galleries, there are several Dutch galleries worth seeking out as well. Amsterdam-based Diez Gallery is showing Shimon Kamada, whose paintings build on used canvases and old family photographs, creating dreamlike surfaces shaped by memory and loss. Amsterdam-based Marian Cramer Projects is presenting Louis Appleby and Daan Koens, with Koens showing work connected to urban views including 36 Gezichten op de Delftse Poort.
Amsterdam-based NewHouse Gallery brings together Claire Witteveen and Lotte Ekkel, pairing painting and photography through rhythm, atmosphere and visual balance. Amsterdam-based Rademakers Gallery focuses on kinetic art, with movement and transformation at the centre of a presentation that includes Yvonne Mak, Jens Buis, Carla van de Puttelaar, Nancy Poeran and Nynke Koster. Almere-based Mini Galerie, meanwhile, marks its fifteenth anniversary with a broad group presentation rooted in street culture, design and contemporary art.
