ROTTERDAM, 7 April 2026 – Rotterdam The Hague Airport is opening a new restaurant, Metropole, as part of its wider terminal renovation. The opening, scheduled for 22 April, is one of several visible changes now taking shape as the airport works through a multi-year upgrade of the passenger terminal.
Metropole is opening in the departure hall during a broader redevelopment that includes more self-service facilities, a new arrivals square and improvements to shops and food outlets. The airport says these works are part of a phased plan to make the terminal more future-ready while keeping it fully operational during construction.
Part of a bigger terminal overhaul
Rotterdam The Hague Airport began terminal improvements for passengers in autumn 2025, after earlier work started on the upper floor in summer 2025. The full project is expected to continue until early 2028.
For travellers, the practical point is that the airport is trying to improve flow as well as appearance. Alongside the new restaurant, a new staircase to the mezzanine is being built to make it easier to find Metropole and other first-floor facilities such as Starbucks and the Premium Lounge.

What travellers can expect now
The airport says the terminal will remain open throughout the works, although passengers may notice some disruption, including noise inside the building. Metropole’s opening on 22 April gives travellers one of the first clear signs of what the upgraded food and hospitality offer will look like.
For Rotterdam, it is a small but visible part of a bigger shift at the airport. The terminal may not be the city’s most glamorous architectural talking point, but for anyone flying in or out, better wayfinding, more self-service and improved food options are exactly the kind of changes that tend to matter in practice.
How to get there
Metropole is inside Rotterdam The Hague Airport at Rotterdam Airportplein 60, 3045 AP Rotterdam. The airport is reachable by public transport, and its own travel information says bus 33 stops directly next to the departure hall, with connections via metro line E from Rotterdam Centraal or The Hague Centraal.
