Tip: Children eat free at De Beren this May holiday

ROTTERDAM, 18 April 2025 – Families visiting De Beren in Rotterdam Alexandrium or Capelle aan den IJssel during the upcoming meivakantie will find children eating for free. The seasonal initiative aims to ease family dining budgets during the school break.

Children dine free during meivakantie at De Beren

A seasonal offer has been announced by De Beren restaurants located in Rotterdam Alexandrium and Capelle aan den IJssel. Between 26 April and 4 May 2025, children will receive a complimentary meal (valued at €8.95) with every main dish ordered by an accompanying adult.

This initiative is tied to the Dutch meivakantie (May holiday), a spring school break offering families a brief pause from the daily grind. The school-free period often becomes an opportunity for outings and local excursions, especially in cities like Rotterdam where family-friendly venues are abundant.

The decision by De Beren to provide free children’s meals during this period was intended to support families who are increasingly cost-conscious. Serge Kats, franchise owner of De Beren Rotterdam Alexandrium, explained: “We notice that families especially enjoy going out during the holidays, but they are also more mindful of expenses. This offer helps ease that tension a little.”

The promotion is valid throughout the entire day and does not require a minimum number of guests. Reservations are recommended and can be made online via the official websites of the two participating locations.

What is meivakantie?

The meivakantie is a Dutch school holiday typically held in late April or early May, often aligning with national public holidays such as King's Day. Although not standardised nationally, most schools in the Netherlands close for at least one week, with many choosing to extend it to two. In cities like Rotterdam, the break is commonly used for family activities, day trips, and local dining experiences.

The Alexandrium and Capelle locations are known for their convenient settings and family-friendly menus.
