ROTTERDAM, 2 October 2025 – From 13 October, tram stops Stadhuis and Pompenburg will be permanently removed. Several tram lines will also see timetable changes.
The stops Stadhuis (lines 3 and 11) and Pompenburg (line 7) will be closed from Monday 13 October. Passengers are advised to use Weena, located on the opposite side of Hofplein, as an alternative. The decision follows the redesign of Hofplein, one of Rotterdam’s most prominent traffic squares. The changes are aimed at reducing travel times for both trams and pedestrians by streamlining the layout.
Frequency changes to tram lines
The new timetable brings adjustments across the network. On weekdays during the day, tram line 6 will increase from three to four services per hour. In the evenings, tram line 2 will also increase to four services per hour. To balance capacity, lines 3 and 5 will each run eight times per hour during rush hours instead of nine.
What this means for travellers
For regular tram users, the most direct impact will be the loss of the two central stops. Visitors arriving at Rotterdam Centraal may find Weena the most convenient alternative. The overall service change increases frequencies on some lines, particularly in districts where demand for evening and daytime travel has grown.
