Youn Sun Nah: Lost Pieces

Korean jazz singer Youn Sun Nah returns to LantarenVenster ten years after her Rotterdam debut, presenting new album Lost Pieces with a quartet.

Nah is known for treating songs as open material rather than fixed arrangements. Her voice can move from delicate and restrained to playful or forceful, and over thirteen albums she has developed a style that reaches beyond conventional vocal jazz. She has performed at major festivals including Montreal, Marciac, Monterey and Montreux.

On Lost Pieces, she returns to writing original material and places herself more clearly in the role of singer-songwriter. The album continues her search across jazz and other musical forms while keeping improvisation, emotional directness and unexpected turns at the centre.

For the Rotterdam concert, Nah is joined by guitarist Matthis Pascaud, double bassist Brad Christopher Jones and drummer Raphaël Chassin. Her official tour schedule also confirms this quartet for the LantarenVenster performance.
