Sugo wins Deliveroo Pizza Contest 2019 in Instagram vote

 

In the end, the Truffle Ricotta & Italian Ham pizza was the absolute favourite. This square (typical of Sugo) pizza, specially designed for the Pizza Contest, was topped with truffle, ricotta, Italian ham, walnuts, honey and arugula.

 

According to Deliveroo, Sugo has created a true explosion of flavours that not only looks beautiful but is also extremely tasty. The five Sugo locations (two of which are in Rotterdam) are allowed to bear the title 'Winner Pizza Contest 2019' for one year.

Sugo Pizza is known for its healthy square (instead of round) pizzas from Rome: the pizza al taglio. These pizzas are difficult to make and take a lot of time. Just making the dough, which consists only of flour (soy, whole grain and spelt), water, a little salt and a little yeast, takes no less than 3 days. Sugo's pizza dough is high in protein and low in carbohydrates, making it a lot healthier than the average pizza. The pizzas are topped with meats and cheeses from family farms in Italy.

The contest was organized for the first time this year by Deliveroo. At the beginning of November, the action started and pizza lovers could vote for the first time via Instagram. The participating restaurants also encouraged customers to vote. Last Friday the final took place and the votes were counted.
