ROTTERDAM, 25 November 2024 – A new phase in Rotterdam's urban development begins as the construction of EDGE Coolsingel gets underway. The project aims to blend sustainability, technology, and art in the city centre.
Construction of EDGE Coolsingel officially begins
The construction of the EDGE Coolsingel building was officially inaugurated on 22 November during a ceremony in Rotterdam. The development, located at Coolsingel 75, is set to offer approximately 21,500 square metres of office space. The design integrates advanced energy-efficient and sustainable technologies, aligning with the city's goals for urban innovation.
Focus on sustainability and art
The project, noted for its environmental focus, employs wood as a primary construction material to significantly reduce carbon emissions. The building is planned to be Net Zero Carbon and will achieve WELL Outstanding certification. It will also incorporate smart technologies to promote user well-being.
Rotterdam’s alderman for Climate, Building, and Housing, Chantal Zeegers, highlighted the importance of projects like EDGE Coolsingel in enhancing the city's sustainability initiatives.
Local artist Melissa Moria has been brought on to transform the construction site's fencing into a dynamic artwork that reflects the connection between people and nature. Additionally, a forthcoming art competition will invite local artists to contribute to the city’s cultural landscape.

Tenants show strong interest in sustainable offices
According to EDGE Director of Acquisitions Joppe van der Heijden, there has been significant interest from tenants, demonstrating a demand for environmentally friendly office spaces that incorporate advanced technologies and offer an inspiring work environment.
A timeline for completion
EDGE Coolsingel is scheduled for completion by 1 August 2026. Upon its delivery, the development aims to set a benchmark for sustainable and intelligent office buildings in the Netherlands.
