ROTTERDAM, 6 November 2025 – The annual Grote Clubactie has once again broken records, raising over €24.3 million for clubs across the Netherlands — the highest total in its 53-year history. Rotterdam’s associations played their part, collecting an impressive €306,288 to support local sports, music, and cultural clubs.
With more than 6,500 clubs taking part nationwide, the campaign continues to be one of the most effective grassroots fundraising drives in the country. Each year, thousands of members, from youth teams to choirs and scouting groups, go door-to-door selling tickets to strengthen their club’s finances.
Record-breaking year for Dutch clubs
According to the organisers, over eight million tickets were sold by 390,000 volunteers representing 6,523 clubs. A remarkable 80% of each ticket’s value goes directly to the selling club — the highest payout percentage of any charity lottery in the Netherlands.
“The numbers show that our formula works,” says Frank Molkenboer, director of the Grote Clubactie. “Every ticket represents engagement, effort and community spirit. It’s heartwarming to see such enthusiasm — from the youngest members to seasoned volunteers. This success proves that club life is still the beating heart of Dutch society.”
Rotterdam’s contribution
Rotterdam-based clubs and associations raised a combined €306,288, supporting dozens of local initiatives. Contributions came from a wide range of groups, from sports and scouting to arts and culture.
Among the top performers:
- Ruitervereniging Rozenburg – €16,377.60
- HVC 10 (Hoek van Holland) – €7,692
- Voetbalvereniging Rozenburg – €5,347.20
- Rijnmond Hoogvliet Sport – €4,322.40
- Gymnastiek Vereniging Animo Hoogvliet – €3,163.20
Smaller clubs also made strong showings, including Erasmus Studentenkoor Rotterdam (€223.20), Badminton Club Asterix (€307.20) and Indoor Bowls Club Charlois-Rotterdam (€360). These contributions, though modest in scale, reflect the same spirit of local engagement that fuels the campaign’s nationwide success.
Strengthening community life
The record total demonstrates the growing appreciation for clubs as spaces that bring people together and promote well-being. Whether through sport, music, or volunteering, associations remain essential to social connection and community resilience.
“Being part of a club gives people structure, friendships and a sense of belonging,” Molkenboer notes. “That’s why it’s so important to keep them thriving — and why we’re proud to see so many Rotterdammers doing their part.”
The funds raised will be used for materials, activities, and renovations, helping local clubs invest in their future while strengthening their role in neighbourhood life.
