Sabine Marcelis transforms Kunsthal ramp with Continuum

FROM 17 FEB–1 NOV '26 | Kunsthal Rotterdam is presenting a new site-specific installation by Rotterdam artist and designer Sabine Marcelis: Continuum. The work reshapes the Kunsthal ramp and HALL 6 into a space you can experience from both inside and outside the building.

Continuum is part of Kunsthal Inside/Out, a programme line that invites designers to create interventions that respond directly to the Kunsthal’s architecture by Rem Koolhaas (OMA). Kunsthal Inside/Out focuses on interventions along the ramp and HALL 6, the Kunsthal’s display window, where installations can be experienced both from within the museum and from outside in the Museumpark area.

A marble intervention along the ramp

Continuum is built from a series of marble volumes placed along the ramp that runs through the Kunsthal, visually linking interior and exterior space with only the glass of the display window between them. The Kunsthal describes the ramp corridor as 25 metres long, and says Marcelis is turning it into a place where people can gather, pause, and interact with the building in a new way. The installation uses Green Manna Marble, with vivid veining that gives the work a layered, shifting look as you move along the route.

If you know the Kunsthal ramp as a fast cut-through between Westzeedijk and Museumpark, this intervention is designed to slow that movement down and make the route feel like a shared space rather than just a passage.

Museum Night 010 performance on 7 March

On Saturday evening 7 March, during Museum Night 010 (Museumnacht010), Continuum will also function as a stage for a musical performance. Museumnacht010 itself takes place across Rotterdam on 7 March 2026, with participating venues open from 20:00 to 01:00.
