corto.alto with support from Terra Kin

Glasgow jazz collective corto.alto comes to LantarenVenster with a sound where jazz, broken beat, soul and electronics collide.

Led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, the group has become one of the most exciting names to emerge from Glasgow’s thriving jazz scene. Shortall builds hypnotic layers while moving between trombone and other instruments, surrounded by musicians whose grooves connect jazz improvisation with contemporary club culture. Think Ezra Collective, Yussef Dayes and Hiatus Kaiyote, but with a distinctly Glasgow character.

The Rotterdam show follows appearances at North Sea Jazz and BIRDfest and comes alongside new album Some Small Fortune. The record expands corto.alto’s sound through collaborations with artists including Mick Jenkins, anaiis, Vector, Jacob Alon and Oscar Jerome.

Opening the evening is Terra Kin, the solo project of Glasgow musician Hannah Findlay. Their intimate music moves between jazz, ambient and folk, combining fingerstyle guitar, hazy soundscapes and close vocal harmonies. Findlay also appears on corto.alto’s new album.
