Corto.alto

Corto.alto brings the sound of Glasgow’s buzzing jazz scene to LantarenVenster for a concert presented together with BIRD. Led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, the group has become one of the clearest signs that something exciting is happening in the Scottish city’s jazz underground.

Shortall sits at the centre of the project, building hypnotic keyboard layers while moving between guitar, bass and trombone. The music feels accessible, but never predictable, with subtle tempo shifts, inventive grooves and a deep connection to club culture. Comparisons with Ezra Collective, Yussef Dayes, Hiatus Kaiyote and Moses Yoofee Trio make sense, but corto.alto has its own restless Glasgow pulse.

After appearing at North Sea Jazz in 2024, corto.alto now makes its first appearance at LantarenVenster. Expect a concert that sits somewhere between jazz, groove, electronics and late-night energy.
