Ora Cogan

Ora Cogan comes to Rotown in Rotterdam with a late-evening show for listeners drawn to cinematic indierock, psychpop, folk and gothic-tinted songwriting. The Canadian artist, from Salt Spring Island, makes music that feels intimate but shadowy, with a sound that should appeal to fans of Sharon Van Etten, Phoebe Bridgers and Babehoven.

Her album Hard Hearted Woman, released on Sacred Bones Records, brings together personal and political writing with a dark, carefully shaped atmosphere. Cogan’s background as an environmental journalist in Nanaimo also feeds into her songwriting, with themes such as social inequality and environmental tension running beneath the surface.
