Artvark Saxophone Quartet

Four Dutch saxophone heavyweights return to LantarenVenster with music from Four Fathers, the second chapter in Artvark Saxophone Quartet’s trilogy and the follow-up to Mother of Thousands. The group, made up of Rolf Delfos, Bart Wirtz, Mete Erker and Peter Broekhuizen, has been exploring adventurous collaborations and concert stages at home and abroad for more than two decades. Rotterdam knows them well too, as this will already be their eighth visit to LantarenVenster.

With Four Fathers, the quartet dives into the layered subject of fatherhood, treating it as something complex, rough, tender and deeply personal. The music is described as a living dialogue between four players and four perspectives, moving beyond genre boundaries while letting structure and improvisation meet in an organic way. No drums, no piano, no harmonic safety net, just four saxophones building a complete sound world together.

That alone already makes it a bit special, but the real promise here is emotional depth without losing the freedom and movement that make a saxophone quartet worth hearing in the first place.
