Death Sells

Eindhoven band Death Sells brings its debut album release show to Roodkapje in Rotterdam, with support from Fellatio and Eyesores. The sound sits in that satisfyingly grimy corner where grunge, noise rock and punk all start elbowing each other for space, with the listing pointing to Flipper, Hole and L7 as the right reference points.

This is clearly not a subtle evening. Death Sells is pitched as the main event, but the supports make it feel like a proper full bill rather than a quick add-on. Fellatio is described as bringing a Suicide-meets-The Fall kind of discopunk energy, while Eyesores adds garage-punk tracks with plenty of bite. Altogether, it reads like one of those nights where your ears may complain later, but your heart will be just fine.

There is also a nice little detail behind the band name. Death Sells apparently comes from a joke in the cult film This Is Spinal Tap (1984), where a character explains a completely black album sleeve with the deadpan line: “Death sells!”
