Jadi Peperzak Quartet

Guitarist Jadi Peperzak, winner of the Conservatorium Talent Award, brings his quartet to LantarenVenster in Rotterdam with music from the debut album Amity. The award is an annual competition for top students from Dutch conservatoires with a jazz department, and the listing makes clear that Peperzak has already been turning heads. His graduation concert with the quartet reportedly earned a standing ovation, and now a wider audience gets the chance to hear those rhythmic surprises and more adventurous compositions for themselves.

Together with his regular band, Peperzak presents a record that came to life partly through a successful crowdfunding campaign. Amity moves between rounded, warm melodies and rougher, more tense passages, with plenty of rhythmic invention in the mix. It sounds like a project that is interested in contrast rather than comfort, which usually makes for a much more rewarding jazz night.
