Maridalen

Norwegian trio Maridalen land in Rotterdam with a clear, playful acoustic sound that adds a fresh voice to the European and Scandinavian jazz scene. The band draw inspiration from nature, and even their name points that way: Maridalen is also the name of a valley just north of Oslo.

Their music is built around the warm tones of double bass, saxophone and trumpet, three melodic voices that weave together in both harmonic and percussive ways. The result is described as filmic and dreamy, telling musical stories that feel intimate without losing their sense of space. Their latest album Gressholmen was named best jazz album of 2024 by Mojo Magazine, and also best Norwegian jazz album of 2024 by Dagsavisen. This show is billed as the trio’s first appearance at LantarenVenster.

The concert is part of In The Round, where the band performs in the middle of the room, surrounded by the audience. A DJ is on before or after, and drinks are allowed inside, which gives the night more of a late-set feel than a formal seated gig.
