Description

A theatrical homage to the French chanson tradition arrives in Rotterdam, bringing the works of Charles Aznavour, Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel to the stage. Top vocalists Filip Jordens, Janneke Elisabeth and Dan Menasche embody these legendary singers, guided by presenter and director Marc Forno. Together with a nineteen-piece ensemble, they revisit iconic songs such as Ne me quitte pas, La Bohème, Milord, Amsterdam and La vie en rose.

The performance transforms the Nieuwe Luxor Theater into a Parisian setting, evoking the atmosphere of L’Olympia with its lampposts, fountains and wrought-iron details. Under the direction of Hans Voerman and with accompaniment by accordion, brass, strings and piano, the music is delivered in faithful renditions. Forno interweaves anecdotes and black-and-white film fragments, creating a vivid journey through the history of French music.
