Sarah Julia
Description
Dutch sister duo Sarah Julia comes to Rotown with delicate indie folk, rich vocal harmonies and deeply personal songwriting following the release of their debut album The Fear That This Is Real.
Sisters Sarah and Julia Nauta draw on shared childhood memories, family relationships and the complicated emotions of growing up. Their songs combine understated acoustic arrangements with voices that move naturally around one another, creating a sound that feels both intimate and emotionally direct. Listeners of boygenius, Adrianne Lenker, The Staves and Joni Mitchell should find plenty to appreciate.
Released on 9 October 2026, The Fear That This Is Real was recorded over six days in Woodstock, New York, with producer Phil Weinrobe, whose previous collaborators include Adrianne Lenker and Big Thief. The album explores heartbreak, uncertainty and vulnerability, with influences from 1970s folk songwriting. Recording live with other musicians helped capture the spontaneous interaction at the heart of the sisters' music.
Sarah Julia has already appeared at Rotterdam's MOMO Festival and is now returning for a headline concert at Rotown. Their December performance forms part of a European tour that also includes dates in Glasgow, London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam.
