Mouse on the Keys

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Mouse on the Keys is an instrumental trio renowned for their boundary-pushing fusion of post-rock, jazz, and minimalist classical music. Since their formation in 2006, the band—featuring pianists Daisuke Niitome and Takumi Shiroeda alongside drummer Akira Kawasaki—has cultivated a distinct sound by forgoing guitars entirely. Instead, they craft melodies and rhythms through layered pianos, synthesizers, and dynamic, polyrhythmic drumming, resulting in a hypnotic and electrifying sonic experience.

Their live shows are nothing short of mesmerizing—intense, almost orchestral performances where intricate rhythms and harmonies collide in an explosive synergy. Augmented by striking visual projections, Mouse on the Keys creates an immersive atmosphere that blends futuristic aesthetics with raw musical energy.

In November 2024, the band released their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Midnight—their first major work since Tres (2018). This album introduces new band member Shiroeda Takumi and features collaborations with British producer Loraine James and contributions from Shutaoro Tsuneta and Seigen Tokuzawa. These fresh influences expand the band’s sonic landscape, incorporating darker, more abstract elements while emphasizing rhythm and electronic textures.
