Description

Dope Purple bring their heavy psychedelic noise rock to Grounds, taking Rotterdam into a haze of screaming guitars, smoking feedback and ritualistic intensity. The five-piece band from Taipei, Taiwan, formed around 2016 and has since built a sound that draws from hard rock, noise, psychedelia and the Japanese underground.

Their music moves like a cosmic guitar explosion, with haunting rhythms and futuristic synths pushing the whole thing into space-psych territory. As hosts of the Taipei Psychedelic Rock Festival, Dope Purple are also closely tied to the growth of Taiwan’s psychedelic rock scene.

Their new album Children In The Darkness was recorded during a live midnight session at Revolver in Taipei. With three tracks stretching into a 50-minute journey through darkness, noise and meditative force, it gives a fair warning of what to expect at Grounds: loud, immersive and probably not suitable for anyone hoping for a polite little Sunday evening. Lovely chaos, basically.
